OLED Respin Button Stopped Working

I have a BB2 OLED button panel and the respin (large) button will not play the game anymore, the screen on the button works fine but no game play when pressed. How can this button be repaired? Thanks.

The button starts to work a little it seems when the game or button panel warms up.

Do the other buttons work?  These buttons get actuated when optics are blocked. You could just have bad optics in the button?  I would just replace that part of the button. There are so many panels with bad OLED's that people don't want to fix, you might be able to get a button that works cheap and transplant your OLED.

Yes all other buttons work fine.

Find a button panel that is gone totally dark and harvest the big button out of it and replace the oled screen on the button with the one from your button.

Thanks for the help. I'm just trying to get my thoughts together on how to fix this problem and if I can repair on the bench.

You would need to take the button apart and replace the optics inside the button assembly.  It is not something you can just wire to fix since the switch is not a physical switch.  You would need to source the receiver and/or emitter parts.  You say it kind of works when it warms up?  Maybe a cold solder somewhere.  I would remove the switch have look to see if the plastic part that covers the lightpath between the emitter and receiver works as it should.

Which button deck do you have keystone?
There's the ones with the four small springs on the actuator legs, and then there's the surgical rubber mat decks.
Two very different decks.

Anyways, what I've seen happen is that when repairing the buttons with the actuators (springs on legs), people break off the optics next to the OLED metal cover tab.
You have to straighten that tab to get the cover off of  the circuit board.
Then when putting it back together, that's when the needlenose pliers can break the optic when trying to bend the tab that holds the cover.

You don't have this problem with the rubber membrane button decks..but players like the spring buttons because they're easier to push.

Thanks Bunker and Rick. I guess I have enough ammo to pull the panel out and take a good look at what I'm dealing with. Maybe I can get lucky with a good clean up.

Hmm...I never really finished it but you get the idea.
In the video, I pressed the actuator down with a screwdriver.
I noiced that I do them so much faster now. haha
