gm 7000 physical button issue
« on: August 12, 2020, 02:11:00 PM »
Hello All,
Just retired and started tinkering back with my pins and slots, which have sat unused for quite a few years.

Anyway, I was able to get my v slant game maker 7000 up and running after a battery replacement and a clear.

I have notice that the physical button (Hold 3 - according to IO diagnostics ) does not work at all, but it works from the touch screen.  IO diagnostics show that the hold 2 button is always on (engaged), but will momentarily turn off if i press it, does not seem to affect play, but does not seem right.  I checked the harness, plugs and switches for continuity and all checked ok.  Is there a switch matrix that controls the physical buttons?  If so, where should I be looking, I don't have a schematic and need some help on where to troubleshoot next.

Thanks,
Scott

Are you sure the wiring is firmly seated into the button bottom? They can migrate out yet still appear connected. Look at connector pins as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just double checked, 99.9% certain wiring, harness and connectors are ok.  I swapped buttons and hold 3 is still DOA.  I checked continuity from the switch plug down to the rear socket and all was well,  I guess my next step will be pulling the rear board (not sure what its called) where the switch harness plugs into.  Not even sure what to look for on it besides a cold solder joint. Visual inspection of pins on board appear fine from what i can see without removing the board.

If you can, switch it with another button, or just bypass the switch and make contact with an alligator clip and see if it registers something.  :propeller:

Did both, swapped the leads to the hold 2 button and got no response, put the hold 2 to the hold 3 and it registered, so I can rule out the buttons.  Also tried the put a jumper between the 2 hold 3 leads and got nothing.

Thanks for the help, you got me thinking in the right direction.  I checked the pins on the main board tray and found 3 pins in the center row bent, but all the others were perfectly fine?  Not quite sure how that happened, i am sure it was my fault  .  Thanks again

Great to hear.  :applause:
Yes my next step was to tell you to "follow the wires" but you got it!
