BB2 freezes or reboots randomly

Hello everyone.  My BB2’s is acting up and will either have the screen freeze and stop taking any kind of action (buttons don’t work, touch screen is non responsive, key turns do nothing, etc..) or it will dive into a reboot. I’ve tried swapping MPU’s with my BB2 conversion and That did not solve the problem.  Although all the lights on the back plane show green, my gut says power supply, but I wanted to check with the group before making a purchase.  I don’t have a spare to test with and don’t want to buy an unneeded power supply if it is more likely to have a different culprit.  Anyone else have any differing thoughts of what to try?

Different game/OS does the same thing too?  If so, I’d think power supply or maybe a funky connection somewhere.  So the image on the screen just freezes then?  Since you swapped out MPUs, that rules out a video card or a HDD.  Does it happen immediately or when it warms up after a while?

Game didn’t matter, only thing that helped was when I went transmissive for a while.  Still happened but seemed to happen less.  It doesn’t happen at the same point.  When booting, it seems more likely to reboot than freeze and the further along it gets the more likely it becomes locked up/frozen.  That said there are also times when it freezes during boot. Sometimes three or four attempts fail to bring the game up, other times I can play it for up to an hour.  Never more than that.

That’s a tough one.  Hopefully, others will chime in, but I’m thinking either a motherboard or power supply.  Something’s knocking your MPU/HDD down, and since it connects directly to the motherboard, and the power supply is connected to the motherboard as well, it’s hard to say which component may be at fault.  I suppose you could test the voltages from the BB2 power supply, but since I have a BB1 to BB2/3 conversion, other folks with a real BB2 cab will need to chime in.

That sounds like a power supply issue to me.  You may also want to check the main power harness from the power supply to the backplane. Sometimes a loose or faulty wire will cause issues like that.

Thanks Rick, I’ll play a bit more with the connections and if still a no go be posting a WTB for a power supply :-)
