"BillVal System Error" message on BB2 w/MEI 6607 DBV

New one for me. :arrowthruhead:
Performed a search... :sherlock: can't find anything except "BillVal Comm Error" discussions....
This one's a little different?
The bill validator was working fine when I turned it off...uh....about 7 months ago?! haha

I turned on my BB2 today and now I'm seeing a "BillVal System Error" message on the display. :banghead:
Also, there's one red LED on the top right hand side of the 6607 MEI DBV blinking 5 times, pausing then repeating - as in some sort of MEI error coding I assume? :scratch-head_3:

Can someone teach me what is happening and what I might need to do to get this puppy working again like it used to?

These MEI heads sometimes lose their firmware programming.  To verify, if you have another mei head, swap to see if it works.  If it doesn't work, then it's most likely the control board inside the validator cage.

Upon reading in it about the 5 red led flashing repeatedly (diagnostic codes)....the manual only show flashes going up to four?  :rotfl: :24:

 I'm screwed!  :duh:
Somebody please PM me about re-flashing...I'll throw this junk in a box and mail it to ya with return ship....thanks

Guess what?
I was wrong about the 5 red LED flashes.... :arrowthruhead:
Apparently, when you 1st slide in the CashFlow bill box, it will INDEED flash 4 times red.
But...after that, it will flash 5 times red repeatedly.....why?

I have no bloody idea. :fuel_on_fire:
So I re-read  :sherlock: the manual linked above to the section on "Diagnostic Codes" and saw that if the led flashes red 4 times, the "Cashbox loses it's memory". :Professor:
I'm like ..."What?!??!"Do these cashboxes have a chip in them? :banghead: :hissyfit:
Recently I bought a boxfull of cashboxes to play with and I thought "Hmmm, maybe I have the "wrong one" in there'? :Scratch-Head:
So, I put every one of them suckers in and presto!

One of the cashboxes gave me a single green LED flash!? Uh oh
I closed the door, and the green bezel LEDs came on!

This MEI bill validator game is now working again!  :dancing_party:

Do you have an easytrax board on the control board (if you look at your control board, it would be a piggybacked daughter card).  If you had easy trax enabled and the matching cash can is not in the system, you will also get the red lights. You can remove the easy trax requirement from the bill head, but it needs to be done with the MEI software.

The programmers are worthless without the mei software.  You can program the heads and do all the maintenance stuff with just the software. (as long as you get the firmware files)
