Coin under step up arm roller after payout
« on: October 04, 2016, 10:10:03 PM »

Hello all, I found a similar issue under a Payout light post dated 2/16 but thought a new post would be better-Model 742 mechanically stepped hopper- Coin getting stuck under pivot arm roller after payout which leaves Winner lite on. Payouts are good on all symbols , Payout board is lined up correctly, knife guide is not binding ,coin kicker and cover are not binding but I "am not sure if it has too much up and down play? Step up arm upper and lower stop brackets look to be set correctly. This issue does not happen on all payouts but can you adjust the hopper brake to keep the coins from advancing too much?

Can this be caused by a bad brake on the hopper motor? As soon as payout is complete the hopper motor is turned off but will continue to turn for a short time unless the hopper brake engages. Might check the hopper brake and its spring, make sure it works cleanly, no binding or missing teeth/serrations.

Also, is that a wiffle ball in the hopper??

It's the early style Hopper there is no break on the motor the coin EGR solenoid is supposed to kick out at the split second before the motor stops you are to adjust the payout relate to do that it should have a hair of room between the coin and the kick out solenoid if not you need to bend it up a hair

Just checked my 742 with the coin kicker / deflector / knife. It knocks the coins off way before they get to the roller.
Manually turn the hopper to see if the knife is positioned correctly to knock off the coins.
It appears the coins are riding under and or its not engaging.

Ok removed the top guard on coin kicker and used my Makita to run the hopper motor and the coins are falling back into hopper BUT when I retract the coin kicker to simulate a win I noticed that sometimes the roller arm is kicking back coins into hopper at the last minute like its getting pinched by the roller arm? Maybe the roller arm stops are not step up correctly?

I think the hopper has a nickel shelf wheel in it, and they are trying to use quarters.  look how far the quarter extends beyond the pin wheel, it's about the same difference as a nickel  to the size of a quarter.

the coin kicker knife is bad or bent incorrectly? or do I have to double check the lower knife? I adjust the roller arm bracket and stop to keep the coins from kicking back into the hopper and now the pinching is gone and coins flow out smoothly ...still have too many coins moving past the kicker after payout

Bill,

In your photo the kicker doesn't look fully disengaged.
I attached 3 photos pertaining to the coin kicker.
Hopper appears to be the right one as the coins appear to be in the right position to be pushed off.
Photo 1 and 3 are similar just different angle and lighting.

Yes the coin partially under the roller arm was blocking the edge of the coin kicker and not allowing the knife to release. After I re-adjusted the Step up arm bracket and stops I can hear/see the coins falling back into hopper after a win and I "am not getting coins stuck under the step up arm as often as before. I read that the Hopper mixer relay and B switch control the hopper motor after payout, so I will confirm that this relay is on the hopper and inspect.
