Bally 922 Dilemma
« on: April 01, 2018, 03:56:16 PM »

On Friday I brought this little beast home. It's a 922 model that has been reworked by Circus Circus years ago. The upper glass is in pretty bad shape. I have done some scrapes and repaint on smaller pieces years ago. However, I think this is a bit beyond that. So, I have a few choices.

 1. Try to have someone scan and make a new backlit laminated piece of artwork. This would be adhered to a new piece of glass.
 2. Find an original piece of glass and go back to the progressive.  The game still has 97% of those parts.
 3. Change the theme. I have one in mind that I saw years ago. More work but, it was a fun game.
 4. Scrape and reframe the "777" area and make a new smaller decal that will just go into that area.
 5. Part it out. But, I just hate to do that with a fairly clean working game.

At this point I am leaning towards trying to keep the Circus Circus style glass. Has anyone here had any success scanning and redoing the artwork such as this?

I think I would scrape out the bad 777's, then reshape the area into a clean clear rectangle. Have some 777's digitally printed to fit. Then look for a Circus Circus glass or the original progressive glass.

I have a video on YouTube   Bally 742-A new glass   Its a machine I made new glass for.

Top glass is digitally printed. Bottom is sign vinyl cut.
Its a lot of work and you'll need access to sign equipment and digital printing.

Check with Jon on this site, he has lots of glass.

Since you are leaning toward keeping the Circus Circus theme, and I agree, I would try what David suggested about first making yourself a rectangle.  Be careful what you scrape with and how fast you try to get the job done or you will have a clear glass up top.  lol.

A window decal with the 7's might do the trick when blacked out around them.

Good luck and send us pictures when you are done.

I have contacted a couple of places regarding this work. We will see what happens. I am leaning towards the scrape and replace. But, I think I want a scan just incase. Below are some closer shots of the damaged areas.

On a side note. The revised game I considered was called "Go Bananas".  There were a few machines made for a downtown casino (4 or 6 games if I remember). My father owned one of them. It had one of those monkey's with the cymbals and moving mouth. When you won the monkey would clap the cymbals and play away. The upper part of the cabinet was lined with that green out door carpet and the monkey was on a pedestal. The glass was mostly clear. I do not recall the artwork if any it was 30 plus years ago.

Has anyone here seen one of these games?

63 that glass is about as bad as it gets inside!  An exacto knife and a single edge blade will give you a fighting chance.  Gordy on this forum may have the glass.   He bought out a few dealers in his day.  I found some rare ones in his basement .  I was only looking for  belly glass so based on his storage system I would not have seen your piece.  Worth a try.

I still have one piece of that circus clown belly glass, looks just like yours.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Thanks, I am familiar with Gordy. He actually purchased stuff from my father back in the day.

Our little hobby is withering on the vine.  We are getting older and dying out.  It is great to hear that you like these games and that your father enjoyed them too.  My son wants no part of my "old slot stuff."  Gordy is a gentleman of the highest order.  Send him a picture and he may know for sure about your glass.  Its worth a try.
