My father James Neal Monaghan passed away May 6th and has joined Joey up at the great casino in the sky.
My wife and I honored his passing by hiking the Compostella Santiago, loosely translated this is The way of St. James.
Our hike was from Porto Portugal to Santiago Spain and encompassed 185km (123 miles) over 10 days.
There is a good movie called "The Way" staring Martin Sheen that is worth a watch, in the movie they started their trek from France which encompasses 800km.
You start by collecting a pilgrim's passport in Porto and you collect stamps from every cafe, bar, restaurant, hotel, hostel etc - you need a minimum of two a day and each is unique, signed and dated by the establishment which shows your progress. When you arrive in Santiago the Cathedral there certifies your passport, puts on the final stamp, and issues you a certificate of the Compostella. I had mine made out in his name.
My father was not a member of this forum but very much enjoyed my home casino where he could play the dealer. On occasion we got down to Laughlin on a junket together and I took him to meet Joey as my friend and guide to the slot world. I miss them both.
