Bally hopper parts 1090-22
« on: March 24, 2018, 07:57:33 PM »

Hello, I'm back with the hopper assembly, and I need a couple of parts. The hopper is in good condition overall.

I just wish the person who took this apart before knew about screwdriver sizes, they chewed up the screw heads. All of the screws need replacing just like the door and cabinet. :banghead:

  :Scratch-Head: Where can I locate hopper parts for a 1090-22 ???

I'm missing the: 19. scoop cover, 34. baffle assembly.

The motor, can it be serviced?

What do you mean can the motor be serviced? I usually just oil the motor and make sure the brake works correctly.. The #34 piece baffle can be found, I don't think it's needed to operate. As for the scoop cover, I don't think I've ever seen one. I'm sure they were a pain in the butt at the casinos, and they were removed and tossed out..

The motor has a sealed gear assembly, I was interested in how the gears are serviced.   :Scratch-Head:

You know I've been working on this machine for awhile, I truly believe that if you don't know about something, learn first before working on it. If you are mechanically challenged don't even touch the thing.

Case in point, the hopper was not working, I had other things to attend to so I waited until now to disassemble the hopper to find out what was going on. Well as I progress with anything I take photographs along the way and what I found was a hopper that couldn't work no matter what you did, the person who took it apart before me didn't put it back together properly, one bearing was upside down. Now thats funny as all get out, his solution was to put in a spacer to make it work.  :banghead: :banghead: :hissyfit:

Before the tear down I read the book on the hopper, learning as much as I can before I took it down. When I saw the plastic, I thought what the **** now since I've installed the bearing back correctly, the hopper spins slicker than snot.

I have observed the motor end play, how much space do you think the end play should be, and if I need to correct this, what is the best solution.

BTW: This forum members seems to have some good positive solutions to this slot machine repairs, I hope that I don't wear out your brains on this slot machine, seems it has a lot of bugs in it I'm straighten out one day at a time, one section at a time.

There has to be some end play, but not so much that the brake parts don’t line up. I know if you remove the two bolts out holding the motor to the gearbox you can separate the two. I’m trying to remember if the is a spacer inside the gearbox at the shafts end. You might be able to find a plastic shim at the hardware store to fix any end shaft play. If you do separate the motor and gearbox you might be able to add a little oil or grease to the gears. The only way to split the gearbox is to drill out the rivets but then you have to use tiny screws to reassembly it.

:thank_you: Thanks,I've  been thinking about that, makes sense to prolong the life. I have the resources/tools to make the gearbox repairable. I also have plenty of electronics to reduce the play in the motor. As of now, all of the screws have been replaced with new ones, all matching. It looks a lot better not seeing buggered up screws.  :dancing_2:

Out of all the machines I’ve repaired, I’ve never have a GB fail. I’ve found them frozen to where I had to use my heat gun to heat up the old hard grease to get the gears turning. I think I even drilled a small oiling hole in the top of the GB to add a few drops of oil. Then run the motor and GB on the bench for a while to mix the grease and oil.

This one spins freely by hand, I will leave it alone since its not broken.  :thank_you:

I have been cycling the hopper and it works flawlessly, the rebuild worked slicker than snot, I replaced 90% of the buggered up screws and it turned out excellent. The motor spins freely by hand without any drag.

I still need to source those parts that are missing. The coins need a proper drop into the hopper.

The baffle should be easy to find but as I stated, that scoop cover is not nessessary. The coins just fall into the open top hopper bowl. If you had the scoop cover on, you wouldn’t be able to reach if to the hopper if you needed some coins to play the game.
