I have an IGT s2000 slot machine and I notice that on the back of the machine that there is an electrical out lit with a plug. I am curious to know what happens if you plug something into that outlit? Will it put the machine into "self test mode" or do something very weird like open the "settings" menus? And would something happen if I plug something into the outlit if the machine is turned off? Thanks

It's not on the back of the machine, right? It's inside??

Either way, it's just a standard 120 volt power outlet, similar to a wall outlet. It is there for convenience to a tech working on the machine, in a casino or at a shop. And sometimes optional equipment that gets added to a machine will plug into this outlet to get power.

On some of these "service" outlets it is only on when the machine is turned on. On others it has power all the time, even with the machine turned off (as long as the power cord is plugged in to the wall outlet). It may have a label nearby saying if it is a switched or unswitched outlet.

no, nothing will change about the way your machine works if you plug something in to the service outlet.

What are you thinking about doing, and should we worry? :Scratch-Head:    :garfield:

I was just curious because I have an IGT Series M 1986 slot machine that goes into "self test mode" whenever I plug something into the outlit, I asked about what would happen to an IGT s2000 in case I needed to plug something into the machine to do matance in the future, thanks for asking and I'm not planning on doing anything soon

There's something wrong with your M slot, it shouldn't do that.

Power the device that you plugged into the outlet.  It should only go into self test mode when you press the self test button.  The outlet is "hot" anytime the machine is plugged in even if the internal power switch is turned off.

Sounds like maybe a weak power supply...

It doesn't have a separate power supply like the I-games/S2000's do.  It's more like a S or S+ slot in that it has a AC transformer and secondary AC voltage distribution system.  Most of the DC power conversion and distribution takes place on the MPU board.

What are you trying to plug into the AC outlet and why?  Can you repeat the problem?

If whatever you are plugging into the M slot service outlet uses a large amount of amps (elec power) it might somehow be glitching the 120 volt power coming into the machine and causing it to enter selftest mode. I'd find another way to get power to whatever you are connecting to that outlet. Is it a lighting bar or other device? There should be a hole in the bottom or back of the M slot where the main power cord comes thru. You can run a second power cord/extension cord in the same way and use it for whatever you are plugging in to the service outlet, that might keep that glitch from happening.

On the S2000 that plug was mostly used for a power supply for the Mastercom units powering the message displays on the players tracking plates. The plug in the S2000 is alway hot when the machine is plugged is and turned off by the switch inside the cabinet. Those plugs are 110V, but at a lower amperage. I learned this by plugging my small shop vac there when the machine was off to clean the inside of the cabinet. It popped the breaker next to the inside plug 🤬..
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

Sorry for late reply, the problem is that when ever I plug something into my IGT Series M 1986 slot machine's  outlit  it displays "Self testing" on the dot matrix display, What I did was plug my iPhone's charger into the machine's outlit to charge my phone as I was trying to fix the handle ( which is fixed ) because I needed to look at the instructions on my phone that doesn't hold a charge for long, my phone requires 5 watts of power to charge , after I saw the "self testing" come on, I unplugged my phone and the game went into normal "door open mode" and played just fine

Try plugging in a sirge protector first and see if the problem persists. If that is a switched outlet, you may have a weak power supply as I stated earlier. In which case you may be able to replace all the capacitors in it and rejuvinate it. That power supply is like 30+ years old now

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll try to plug it into a surge protector and try different outlets :) I'm amazed how long slot machines can last and I do hope that I' be able to keep both of my slot machines in good Heath for years
