All this after I do a ram clear and get it back to test mode I use the white test button to get credits and it plays even when the door is open
But if I shut off the machine and turn back on 3100 error is flashing

3100 is extra coin paid out or coin stuck under hopper optic.
Clear your hopper jam, close the door to clear the error.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

To clear the 3100 he needs to close the door.
The slot is not recognizing the door closed as the optics are not working or are misaligned.

We need to solve that issue and the rest will take care of themselves.

Are you able to observe the light from the door optic emitter ?

Make sure the door latch is pressed ALL of the way down to line up the optics and create a reset upon the game detecting a door closed.

As was mentioned in Reply #1, even after the door is closed, depending on the SP chip used in the machine, the candle will continue to flash until one paid game has been completed.  It is therefore normal behavior for many SP chips for the candle to continue to flash after the main door has been opened and then closed again.

Also, please make sure that the door to the bill validator stacker (the "cash can" door) is fully closed, and latched if there is a latch installed.  If that door is open just a little, it will prevent the machine from seeing the main door as closed, as it is wired inline with the main door optics.

When you close the door, is there any kind of indication from the machine that it has detected the door has closed, such as the red LED displays on the front of the machine going blank for a second or two before returning?

did you check with the camera that emitter is lighting? The emitter is on the cabinet side. Also place a piece of painters tape on the side of the cabinet at the optic and mark a line where it is. Next put tape on door edge and mark a line. Now close and latch the door. Do the 2 lines match up?

Over 5,000 members on this forum and not one person can tell me why my machine will run perfect in test mode on test credits .... But won't accept coins and obviously the door optics (although changed out and in working order) doesn't register to the machine the door is closed and locked...which seems to be the issue here
Now I'm being told to check connections check the cash can check black wires to the right of the cpu etc
But why does this machine work normally in test mode .....if any of the issues that are being brought up was the problem would the machine work in test? That's the question I'm having a problem with .....
The reason their is a test mode on a machine is to what? Test and see if it works right?
Well it does  like any other machine I've ever played.....so come on boys and girls help an old man by giving some real insight in PLAIN English......RB thanks for the optics but it still didn't help......

For starters, understand that everyone here is volunteering their time offering assistance.  We are not your paid tech support, and you are not our customer.  There's no need to cop an attitude, and I'll tell you that doing so is the fastest way to get people to not want to help you.

The answer to your question as to why your machine works with the psuedo credits is that the machine is designed to operate with those pseudo credits with the door open, and the pseudo credits disappear when the machine registers the door as being closed.  Since your machine is not registering the door as being closed, it will not attempt to accept a coin.  That issue must be resolved in order for your machine to operate normally.

Since you have tried the obvious solution of replacing the door optics and that didn't resolve your issue, folks are suggesting alternate theories as to why your machine is not registering the door as being closed when it is.  If you want to fix your machine, you will need to try different troubleshooting steps until you determine what the underlying issue is.

For the third time now:

Also, please make sure that the door to the bill validator stacker (the "cash can" door) is fully closed, and latched if there is a latch installed.  If that door is open just a little, it will prevent the machine from seeing the main door as closed, as it is wired inline with the main door optics.

Seems pretty clear your door optics just arent lined up.  Another way to tell if they're "working", unscrew both sets, slowly close the door, but not all the way, and stick them together pointing at each other.

Watch the screen.  Does it take it out of test mode?

- if yes,  Than you're not aligned when you've been closing the door, try harder

- if no , you broke your optics again.  Post pics of the back, I broke 2 sets in 1 day once (resoldered the leads back on which sucked).

Unfortunately you're too far away for me to wait for you throwing it in the curb.

On the S+ the cash can is in series with the door optics.
On one of my machines I ended up using a small piece of masking tape to keep the cash can door closed. It didn’t look any different than the other two but apparently it became slightly ajar when the door closed.
If your interested in diagnostics the PSR document will cryptically outline various test such as reel alignment, last game played etc. Unfortunately with this issue you will get a code that says door open and that’s it.

Not wanting to flog a dead horse but I don’t believe I have read that you have confirmed that you have a lit emitter by using a camera. I had also suggested that you may need to reverse the wires on the optics as diodes are polarity specific.

Finally it could be a bad chip on your MPU board. You can pick up a spare S+ board from one of the vendors on our home page and/or eBay. Many offer discounts for NLG contributing members.

The optics could be fine, Transistor Q6, a 2N3904, on the main MPU board, could be bad and not producing the pulse to the door emitter.
It could also be the far right pin on J10 on the backplane board is bent over and is not making contact.

Do you have current going to the emitter?

need some information, does your machine have a bill acceptor?
in the opening section of the S+ section  the second topic is the S+ diagnostic cards.  read these ,  when you put the machine in the "real" test mode by pressing the white test button near the power switch or on the cpu enclosure then you can test every feature of the machine, including the door optics.  it is listed in the input tests , test number 13.  since you are using SP731, you can move thru all the menus and tests using the buttons on the front of the machine. the cards will explain how to do this.

Bring the machine to me, I will get it running for you. (Cincinnati)

Still have like 400 credits on the machine in test mode played 2 then pulled the board where the sp731 prom is located looked for any issues when I pushed it back in I'm now getting error code  3100 flashing then the 400 credits flash
This is a reoccurring code every time I pull the hopper or the back board
Been doing ram clear and it removes the error and then allows me to continue in test mode but as expected the credits clear
I do have a bill acceptor that's not working either....  That 3100 error code extra coin out has been an issue ever since I replaced the battery ...I tried putting the optics taped together then shutting the door ...nothing
Don't have a volt meter ..... I really have not disturbed anything in this machine except replacing the battery
And putting in a new  game prom  still siting for an answer on why the machine works fine in test mode?
If electrical or bad wiring would it still work in the test mode?

OK, your last post left me with a few questions. You did a RAM clear. So you inserted chip let it count 2 times. Changed the chip to 731, Then 61? Push button then 61-1? Closed door and turned key to get out of 61-1? Reels spin right to left?? If all of these things are yes, then your optics are working. If no then we have more to consider. Your code 3100. How are you clearing it? Should be open door close door and gone. We definitely need more pictures. Show coin comp and inside of front door. Remove the hopper and show MB. Picture of MPU board too. Please address ALL of my questions so we can get this machine marked as solved.

Yes to your questions  and I'll snap some pics
Only way I can clear the3100 is to do another ram clear with my ram clear prom then stick the sp731 back in and follow instructions I was given to put slot back to ready mode ....only the only way to get credits is the test button  and I can leave the door open and continue to get two credits  by pushing the button until it hits something big  I can play these like normal but the counters never move...
