E-2224-20 what am I missing??
« on: October 29, 2019, 05:38:58 AM »
Just got this slot and the history is that it was assembled from a number of units and never worked as a whole. I have also never seen one all together either so I need some help here.  I am well versed in pinball repair so this is doable if I can figure out what is missing.
I have the 2224-20 PROM set installed in a -5 MPU and it boots OK now but I do not know what secondary boards I am missing. The PS, I/O, hopper and and reel readers are all there. The top cabinet is bare but has a lot of connectors in it. I also have a box of parts including 3 sound boards, and a 3178 whatever that is.  There is a bell, a speaker, etc. My question is what belonged in this machine?? I have posted pictures here.
Do I need a smart board, progressive board, delay board etc or are those just optional??
To make matters worse it looks like some of the cabling was torn and spliced at some point and I'm guessing that is not original. See pictures and give me your guesses. Oh yeah, I found a bunch of manuals online but would really like something that would show the cabling for this machine and also the board level schematics. I think I need a FO-650-13 for that. The cabling is a real worry with all those splices and i either need a good diagram or some good pictures to figure this out.
Thanks in advance for all encouragement -- Travis

Wow, you have definitely taken on a big project! Any progress? Did you ever get the manuals?

Working 100%
The biggest problem was the wrong PROMs but thanks to help from this board someone was kind enough to email me the binary files from a similar machine. I burned them and all of a sudden it was just broken, not brain dead.  Those individual problems could then all be dealt with. It becomes a pretty straight forward process once you have a working CPU that understands what should and should not be happening.
This was my first slot, but I have a lot of Bally pinball experience and a well equipped workshop.

I would have been lost without this Board and would like to thank the community.
