S5500 Coin in Alignment Issues
« on: December 09, 2019, 03:09:55 PM »
Strange topic, but couldn't find any information for it in the forums, so I'll ask, sorry if it's been previously answered or addressed.

Worked on a Bally S5500 for a customer this morning. Changed battery, Safe Ram Clear, etc.

Machine is ready to play, but for some reason his coin path does not line up.

He recently replaced the Coin Comparator with one of the same model, the optics are original.

Coin falls from Head, through Comparator then stops on the mounting bracket lower shelf that holds the CC. They just stack up there and jam behind the CC.

Coins never make it into the optics for some reason. It's obviously an alignment issue between CC and Optics, but I don't see how. Nothing seems adjustable, that I could tell, in that path.

Anyone ever experience this?

Thanks.

Maybe the mounting pins/lugs on each side of the CC are not in the proper location.  They are adjustable.  Compare to the old CC.

Thanks for the quick reply,

Didn't think of that. I'll give it a try next time I'm by his place.

He threw away the old CC unfortunately.

Pins/lugs should be mounted on all four corners and snapped into the four Plastic clips for proper alignment.

Didn't see any way to adjust pins on CC.

It's got all 4, but they just screw into fixed holes on the side.

They fit firmly into the mount. No adjustments on the mount either. Just a strange situation.

It's possible that he ordered the wrong Comparator, but the part number matches the requirement for that particular machine.

Thanks for the input, I'll figure it out eventually.

Long time since I saw one of these!  isn't the optic mounted to the lamp housing?  the cc bracket mounted to the door via two screws?  there was a piece of metal on the cc bracket that aligned with the optic assembly, I think there was a hole for it to be inserted into ,thus the alignment.

In any case, that's all you would have to do, fashion some sort of interconnect to align the two items, problem solved!

When you remove the CC is this alignment pin protruding through the bracket?

Yes, Jim had it right by his description and all of the pieces are there and in their proper place.

Just like the photo above, the alignment pin is protruding through the CC mounting bracket.

But in my case, the alignment is still off by enough for the coins to stack up behind the Comparator. Still not making it to the Optics.

Best I can figure is the inner door panels have become bent or pushed in enough to throw off the alignment but not be visible to the eyes.

Here's some photos. All of the right pieces are accounted for.

Those assemblies always required a little physical bending.
The comparator should have mounting pins at the middle and bottom of each side.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Update

Got back over to where the machine is located and have figured out where the alignment problem lies, it's between the Coin Head and the CC.

The coins do not make it through the Coin Comparator as originally thought, but are actually falling down behind the CC.

Now I just need to figure out how to align the coin path between those two components. Once again, there is very little room for adjustments.

Thanks for all of the previous inputs.

You are most likely missing the coin guide that mounts to the bottom of the coin head.  It guides and aligns the coins between the coin head and the CC.

Thanks Sunrise Side,

That's the problem. I never paid attention to the fact that there was a huge gap between the head and CC.

It appears that someone previously used some plastic shims to make a "guide" for the coins. It's not working too well. Lol.

Here's how it looks with everything assembled. Definitely need the piece pictured above.

Let me know if you have an extra one for sale.

Appreciate all the help.
