SPC-2.5 II mixed notes on whether it's compatible with MK6
« on: January 01, 2020, 01:45:40 PM »
I've been reading up on SPC-2 and SPC 2.5 boards and saw a thread on Delphi that first said 2.5 isn't compatible with a MK6, while a little further down the thread someone said they used 2.5's all the time on their MK6 machines.

I've found both 2.5 and 2.0 on Ebay, but wanted to see which would be the one to get.

 :thank_you:  in advance

I got an audit key and was able to get into the setup menus. It appears to be set up already for an SPC-2.5, though the casino seems to have removed it before putting it on the surplus market. So it leads me to think that if I go with an SPC-2.5 board, it "should" work.

My two machines were both set up for the SPC. More digging to see what I need to do.

I have two MK6 machines and they both have this SPC board in them.

Hi Paul,

That looks like a 2.0. Thanks for confirmation.

Well I found me a SPC2.5, so at some point in the next week or 2 I will be testing this one out! Have to start playing around with those annoying US chipsets again though!

I picked up an SPC 2.0 and installed it. In the Audit menus, it came up as a 2.5. I was wondering if it picks up the ID of the board, or you have to set it. The SPC board section was locked out in the regular Audit menu. I figured it either reads it, or you have to set it when you clear the memory.

I'm going to take a shot at clearing the memory and seeing what happens.

Hi

If machine sees SPC board you should get the firmware version in the diagnostic menu.
Also the yellow leds on the port connected to the EGM should both be flashing indicating 2 way comms.

Somewhere there is a screen where you must set the SPC ID. From what i recall no Ramclear required although this may differ on USA software.
I dont have any here to check but found this post which may be usefull.

Ian, thanks!

I did a memory clear on the SPC 2.0 board (jumpering a couple of pins and power off/on/off) and when I went back into the Audit menu, it now appears to read the 2.0 board correctly. Interestingly, it no longer has any user settable settings. Not sure if that's good or bad ;)

When I do a ticket in, it tries to validate and gives me a system time out. I suspect that that's because there isn't a working TITO data connection on H4 of the SPC board.

My question now is what's the line level/protocol coming off H4? The simple data connection appears to be RS232 (Data in, data out, ground), but I'm not sure. If it's rs232, then I need to go back and check my connections to make sure they're all ok. If not, I'll need to make a converter.

Any idea?

I am no expert on this by any means, but I do understand SAS. I suspect what you need to do, is set up the SPC as a singe port config. You will then need to hook either the bettor system to the single SAS port on the SPC, or use something like SAStest.

When you try and collect, all the machine (via SPC) will do is tell the host that you are requesting to have a ticket printed. The host then instructs the EGM to print that ticket. If you dont have a TITO system connected to the SPC, then you experience the exact same issue as you described.

According to the doco I can find, J4 on the SPC is just standard RS232, which you should be able to connect directly to a PC running SASTest. The SPC2.5 basically uses the same pin and port configuration, and I can assure you that the SAS outputs from that are RS232.

IF you can hold out till next week, I'll set my SPC up and work out how its all wired up.

Thanks for the confirmation on the RS232.

I downloaded SAStest, and I'll see what I see with that.

Techtoons

Just remember to setup all the relevant options in the SPC Configuration screen.
IE Validation, System bonussing and general control should all be mapped to port1.

This port also has diagnostic leds on the SPC board so you will have a visual go/no go indication.
Once you have SASTest hooked up to P4 and polling and still dont get comms do a SPC clear from that same setup screen. Sometimes this is needed to jumpstart comms.

Thanks iwalker, I'm getting messages (start and ending game), and just found a post with images where someone used EFT to add to machine. I was unable to get Redemption to work, but maybe I'm misunderstanding how it works. The Help seems to be light in the UI and how you would do things.

Techtoons, is it possible to get a picture or number of the Comms communication board you are using? Thats the board that looks like a little sim module.

Also, what port on the backplane is the SPC connected too? I am thinking the Aussue backplane may be different to the US version.

Hi Bogan,
I haven't tinkered with it in a couple of weeks. My wife's the player, and she's been keeping the account high enough so I haven't had to add anything in a while.

In one machine I've got an SPC 2.0 and the other a 2.5. On both I'm getting incoming messages, like game started or game ended.

On the backplane, connections are:
a. EGM backplane P19 (BDACOM) and P23 (COM2/COM4/MIKOHN)
b. SPC2 connectors H2 (EGM Comms) and H8 (power on SPC 2.0), J2 (power on SPC2.5)
I've been successful at using the SAStest to authenticate tickets. However I've only been able to substitute a value for whatever is on the ticket.

I need to cut out some time to work with it a bit more.
