Send to  tkrozleski@hotmail.com.  Did this machine have the progressive already installed in it or are you adding the progressive ?

That is a standalone Mikohn controller ( probably 341-002-10B) with what appears to be a super cap that most likely lost all charge and the programming along with it. You'll need to download PSP ( probably PSPII) to reprogram it. Go to the forum topics covering Mikohn and you will find a wealth of information there. There you will also find links to download the PSP. Is that controller connected to the backplane?  Is there an opto coupler in relay 1? Also need to verify the settings on the MPU.

Dang, I was hoping it would not be that complicated, I thought it would just be some settings in the menu. There is a serial cable coming from it plugged into the motherboard behind the main board that slides in

Can you share a picture of that cable where it connects at both ends?

I was wrong, the serial cable is plugged into the motherboard but does not go up to the progressive controller. This is the only plug I see plugged into the progressive part that goes back down inside the machine where the motherboard is

It's going to take a little work to get that running.  You'll need the cable or be able to make one. It goes from J9 and J10 of the backplane to the mikohn.  Also, you'll need to make sure that in relay position 1 on the top left right of the backplane has an opto coupler. An easy way to tell is a relay will take all positions of that port. An opto coupler will only take the bottom 6, starting with the second row from the bottom going up. Have you gone through the mikohn forums?  Bunker and several others have great writeups there.

I do want to set this machine up to be able to hit the cashout button & clear the credits by turning the reset key on the right side. Is that something in the settings I need to change or possibly disable the hopper?

I'm not sure I understand the question. By pushing the Cash/Credit button on the button deck,  the machine is switched from playing Credit or coin. Credits can be added by coin or through the bill validator. In cash mode the machine pays out coins. In credit mode the credits are accumulated and displayed on the door credit window. Those are different functions than what the reset key is for. Do you want to eliminate the use of coins all together?

I may have worded it wrong. What I want this machine to do is if I press the cash out button on the deck, the credits will clear back to zero by turning the key on the right side of the machine. I'm trying to eliminate the hopper because it's a little slow & don't drop all the coins sometimes & causes am error

The S5500 pays in 3 ways. It will payout in coin from the hopper, pay from an attendant, and transfer credits to a players card.

When paying from the hopper, it will payout all in coins unless the win from play exceeds the limit set in the internal settings for maximum payout. It will then pay the maximum coins and go into lockup and the attendant pays you the difference in cash and uses the reset key to take the machine out of lockup. The key does not clear credits.

To transfer credits to a players card, you'll need a player tracking system and that's a whole nuther ball of wax.

Best I can suggest is to get the hopper working because you'll need it when changing from credit back to cash. Keep filling it till it has payed out. The only other way to clear credits is to do a complete RAM clear, which isn't practical.

Well that's disappointing to hear, so it sounds like there is no way to press the cashout button & then turn the reset key in order to clear the credits off then? So a Bally 6000 will allow you to do this but a Bally 5500 won't?
