Bally's 6000 Bypass Coin Comparator, clear chip questions.
« on: January 21, 2020, 05:11:50 PM »
Hi. Ballys s6000 reel 777 unit.
88ff error, have U28 and U43 leave in chips installed previously. Soldered in new battery, tried holding Test and Pseudo buttons down while Turing on but still 88ff.
Q-1. Is this the correct reset?
Q-2. Has anyone set their coin comparator to accept any coin? I was looking at the scematics and it looks possible to rewire at the comparator to allow this. ( Home use machine)
Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, no, I left dip #8 on. Do you mean I should switch it off, turn on with test and Pseudo held and then after cl or .. turn off again, then switch dip to on and turn on? Thanks for the quick reply.

Copied from Badbaud post. -
If you are using leave in mains-
turn switch 8 on.
Hold the two buttons in and turn the machine on.
Watch for CHC then CLC then turn the machine off.
Turn DIP switch 8 off and turn on the machine.
Do not close the door until the reels have done their bump dance.
When the reels are done you may see a 50 code on the display, if not you will see a day/month/year setup. Just press the change button to exit that setup.
Close the door and the game should be ready to play.

Thanks again for the info but it didn't change the 88ff error.  basically the same as I was trying before. ( Assuming the "2 buttons" refered to are the test and Pseudo? Not really sure where to go to from here, guess I could try getting a new battery but seems like a long shot.
I tested the battery with an ammeter and it was 3.6.

Yes, Test and Pseudo buttons.  Is the polarity correct when you installed the battery onto the board?  Jumper JW20 is jumped to both pins? You  may have a bad main chip if everything else is good and correct.

Sunrise side, thanks for your interest in my issue.  I believe the battery is installed correctly. The JW20 jumper near the battery does have the jumper on it. I have attached an MPU plot with smaller pictures of Batt and dip switches.

Hard to tell, but is the battery leads touching the IC chip? Can you post a different angle of that battery.?  The Dip switches you have a picture of are not used to do the clear. Are you using the Dip switch that is by itself which is Dip switch package number one?

No, the leads are longer than original but not touching anything. First 10 times I tried clearing I didn't touch any of the dip switches.  But it was suggested to switch one of the dips , restart with the test and psudo held but didn't clear with that either so I switchedit back. Do you mean I should be using some dip switches to do the complete clear? If yes, where are these located? Thanks again.

Remove both RAM chips from their sockets and swap their positions on the board then try clearing again.

Badbaud, excuse my ignorance but are the ram chips the u28 and the U43 chips?

This is the Dip switch 1 (DS1). For leave in mains you slide the very small White switch number 8 and use the previous instructions.

Ok, thanks.  Yes that was the dip switches I did try it with. I also removed those 2 chips and unfortunately no clearing afterwards.  I have seen posts saying that if these don't work I could need a complete board or possibly just new mains ( I'm assuming mains are the u28 and U43 leave in chips)?
