Complete NEWBIE... Meter issue on GK044
« on: February 10, 2020, 04:32:21 PM »
I'm a total newbie. My first post didn't go through as the attached photo was too large so I'm trying to reconstruct my question.

I just received my new GK044 enhanced machine. I've got a ton of questions. I set it up after a 9 hour drive home and found the buttons were not functioning. I checked the I/O board and reseated only to discover that there are two I/O boards, one inside the cabinet and one on the door. I guess the vibration caused the one on the door to become dislodged. That was a relief.

I notice that there are three internal meters on the door. The far right one is clicking and not advancing. So when a bill is inserted, it just tries to advance for an awfully long time. Several minutes and I'm not sure if it even goes off. If the connector is disconnected, it will generate a "CALL ATTENDANT Meter Disconnected" error. The I/O check is somewhat flaky too, it will show 0 or 1 under Meter Disconnect.

I am able to play all the games but the clicking noise is annoying.

I have not seen or read anyone else having issues with meters? Any comments.

This is my second machine. My first is a electro/mechanical Bally Moneyhoney. The reels just got repaired and waiting to be picked up. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated from this newbie. Thanks.

Okay, great. Thanks. I'll give it a try. Seems like the meters themselves are not advancing. But I'll jumper it and see how it goes.

Attachments must be under 1MB so you'll have to resize your picture to get it under that.  It also eats your message as you found out the hard way.

Your accounting denomination is probably set low, likely 1c.  In that case the meter will have to advance (click) 100 times for each dollar bet/payout you make.  The constant clicking of the meters gets annoying and that's why many people bypass them as Mark pointed out.   Follow those directions and you won't have to worry about them constantly clicking and the jumper bypasses the meters disconnected error.

The meters are probably worn out internally and that's why they're not advancing.  There's no feedback loop from the meters to the MPU so even though the MPU is sending pulses to advance the meter it doesn't know if the meter actually advanced or not.  There is a loop on the meter board though and removing the connector from it opens the loop and the MPU knows the meters have been disconnected.  The jumper replaces the loop on the meter board and allows you to operate the machine with the meters disconnected.

Perfect! Jumpering did the job. Not worth getting those fixed. Thanks all!
