Bally Extra Line 917-1 SAMPLE Convertible
« on: September 22, 2020, 03:29:08 PM »
Found this on marketplace.  Glass broken on top, and belly.  But not too bad inside.  Very odd it says 917-1 SAMPLE, in a couple places.
Any idea what that means?  Is the convertible option rare?
ThanksE

try monte's slot shop for the glass.  He has glass that came from the shop that did the the conversions of the 917's to california special games, so it's possible they had the original glasses in their piles.

also ask him if he knows anything about sample games ... I'd guess it's literally a game sent to a casino or gaming commission for evaluation.

I don't have any production numbers, so dunno how many games were made that were location configurable for coin or credit payout.   I have a 929-1 that has the key switch to flip the game mode, but that's a oddball game to begin with :-)

Thank you Wolf
Very unique game.  It is in great shape electrically.  The contacts and steppers are very clean and it doesnt look like it had much use.  The mechanics of the reel mech appear to have been greased and lubed by someone who didnt know what they were doing.  I have been cleaning for a few days here and there and almost ready to fully assemble.
I did find some wires on the door that were shorted which is what caused the blown 6V fuse.  A mouse must have gotten in and had a snack.  I taped them up and was able to power and see all the lights come on.  Exciting milestone.
I was then able to switch the side mode switch and in one position the reel glass says "200 Coins Paid by by Machine... blah blah", then when you switch to credit that light goes off and it lights a lower panel that says "To play credits press credit button".  Very unique.
I reached out to the slot guy and have not heard back.  I will let you know what he says.
Thank youEric

Thanks for the referral Wolftalk but I don't believe Phil at Ace Distributing did any of those although they could have come thru his shop! The only thing I see in my Bally documentation is that it came out in 1971 and the model number extension was 1127 and its prior cousin was the 910 Lucky Bars Continental and prior to that was the 891 Super Continental both Auto/Credit pays! Possibly our mutual friend in Carson City Alan would know as he worked for Phil even thought I believe it was the later years prior to Phil's passing!
I'll have to give him a call and ask!
Funny, have a guy in Toledo Ohio who has the Lucky Bars version who also is asking for glass and I haven't located any for it!
Probably not a highly desirable model for casinos of that time so may not be many around!
I need to get a hold of you Wolftalk have an elusive manual you may have gotten from Alan!

I screwed up.  The original model for the california special conversion was the 902 ... an 8 coin multiplier machine.  The glasses ace slots would have surplused would be "bonus line" or maybe "arrow line" ones.

sorry about the red herring.

Pretty cool game; 4 reels plus a fifth reel that's a proposition reel. It's like a 902 but an extra reel and only six coins. Sadly, getting glass is going to be difficult and expensive.

Is it a five cent game?

Here are a couple photos of the 902 BONUS LINE that Phil at Ace Distributing in Sparks, Nevada would have revamped per Wolftalk's comment, this one  is sitting in my "Bone Yard" waiting for my TLC, which will come in my spare time, whatever the heck that is! LOL
Phil also did many Summit conversions of Ballys which is why I ended up with so many Bally internal parts as he had them all Rat Holed in the back of his shop on shelves in old Summit boxes which I have yet to inventory everything, another

"Spare Time" project!
