Bally S5500 coins not accepting.
« on: September 05, 2014, 06:43:22 PM »
Completely new to the slot machine game, but have been working on arcade and pinball machines for a while.

So heres the rundown of what is happening.

originally I was having an 81 error.   replaced the battery then the error went to 83F.  Cleared the Roms and everything would boot fine.

Now on to the problem. Coins drop right through the optic and do not register and when the Coin Comparator is in place it shoots them right back to the return.

here is what I have troubleshooted so far.

- I can add credits manually with both the optic and the main board Pseudo coin buttons.
- if I put a coin through the optic with the door open it gives me an improper coin error. (not sure if this is normal)
- I've confirmed that I am getting power to the comparator and the light comes on when the door is closed.
- I've tried blocking the rake open on the comparator so it brings the coin right through the optic. (coin jst drops straight to the
hopper with no response)
- I've pulled the optic board out and cleaned the optics.

really not sure where to go from here.

also is there anywhere I can download the manual for free.  can't seem to find it.

Cheers,

AA

This might sound silly but do you have a coin in the comparitor?

Yes. There is a coin in there. Also, before anyone asks the switch for the coins is in the up position

Try cleaning the Optic Board Sensors, located in the back of the sensor board..or even replacing it entirely and that would solve it for me many times...
