CGA to VGA troubles
« on: December 02, 2014, 02:09:48 AM »
Hey everyone, glad to be here. there seems to be a ton of great info on this site.

I have run into some confusing trouble with a Ghosts and Goblins JAMMA game. The CRT was no bueno so I got a $40 CGA to VGA conversion board from amazon. It seems to work well and the game is playable HOWEVER, the picture seems to wiggle vertically. The picture appears to have no noticeable distortion but the entire display kinda wobbles  up and down constantly. I tried a couple of different LCD monitors with different aspect ratios but the wiggling is the same. Any ideas? Does anyone have experience with CGA to VGA conversion?

I'm using 5v 2 amp DC for power and am thinking maybe the board needs slightly higher voltage to work right...? Maybe some kind of electrical interference in the video signal??

Sounds like you have poor or no sync.  I don't have a ton of experience with conversions, but sync was one of the big issues we ran into when trying to convert CGA on the PE+ to VGA.
