Strange WG monitor needs 2 Voltages to work?
« on: March 23, 2015, 01:45:28 AM »
I'm trying to make lemonade here from a lemon I bought. I needed a 25" med monitor to replace in another game. I found a dual Virtual VR cabinet with the original WG monitors.

The tubes still checked good. I bought the cabinet for the monitor. When I got it to the shop and removed it, I discovered its got a strange power requirement. It has the normal 120V input (yes through an Isolation transformer), but also requires a 30VAC input.

The cabinet was gutted and the transformer is missing.

First, I believe this is a WG but cant identify the exact model. What exactly is this I have? There cant be too many of these floating around.
Second, Will this (or can it be modified) to only use 120VAC.
Third, What is the 30VAC used for for anyway? Why did the designers feel this was necessary?

I REALLY need to get this working.

Ideas? I can get Pics if needed.

Could it be an X-Y vector monitor? I believe those type monitors have a 30vac input. Instead of using a standard video input they have separate X-Y-Z inputs for the video. They are popular in the gaming world where image drawing speed is important. Attached is an example manual, likely not your monitor but it might be useful to see. Maybe you can find a sticker or stamping in the chassis that gives the model number.

Perhaps this monitor is capable of running on either 120vac or 30vac? If you can find the model number then finding the manual or specs for it will be easier.

Also, what does the connector at the end of the video cable look like? Is it something you can connect to your setup?

Many of your pictures didn't show up, only one small one came thru, can you post more pictures of the monitor, especially the insides of the monitor and clear ones of the circuit boards, power supply inputs.

here are more WG manuals:

This is just not enough information.  Is this a test?  Can you upload a comprehensive picture of the whole monitor chassis?
