831 coin relay switch
« on: January 02, 2015, 01:08:25 AM »
Hello,  My Bally 831 has a few problems. The coin relay looks like it has had some recent soldering done. On the far right side of the switch one wire has come off the tab . This wire is. 31 or yellow red. The other side of the switch has no wire and does look like something was soldered to it recently. The 31 wire was stretched  fairly tight to reach the tab before it came off. I can't find this wire in the wiring diagram and wonder does it need to be lengthened and reattached with nothing on the other side of the switch? The slot does have problems, like handle not locking, payouts not reliable, coins not registering after first coin. I know one thing at a time! Thanks for any help you can give me.  old Reno is my hero and the best new year to all you slot fans!, yes I do have schematic  and are having a hard time translating it to what's on the machine.

Pics of the relay and switches would be a help. Do you have an 831 schematics?

Closest schematic I have is an 873, and it shows there are at least three 31 wires.
They are all separate circuits, btw.
One of them is to the coin lockout coil (behind coin acceptor),
One of them is to the odds reset coil (not the relay, but the solenoid)
The 3rd is to the jackpot lockup and to the Key switch JP release...
Hopefully you can find it on those coils etc.
Schematic shows coin lockout coil going through a coin lockout relay switch to a 30 wire (the return)
I am not familiar with a coin lockout relay, so your guess is as good as mine.
I am guessing that it is to your coin lockout coil (behind acceptor), and to check that, after inserting one coin, push on the armature to feel if it has voltage to the coil. It should buzz at you and you can feel resistance.  If it loses voltage after 1st coin in, then check switches on your odds disc in the top, the ones operated by the tabs poking out from the white wheel.
Is that original switch NO or NC, by the way...?
Happy New Year.
