at this point, lets go to the menus and check all the settings,  in the group 2  check the 9 setting, should be 9_1 enabled,  Group 3 settings,  #6   should be set at 25 cents,   what are all the #7 settings??  should be 4 settings listed each with a numerical value.

Yes, press white test button 2 times. a 2 or 5 will be in window. turn key to 9. It should read 9-1 to be on. Even though you thought it was turned on with set chip, it might not have been.

you are correct. Ir reads 9-0. It is not turned on. I used the set chip ,to turn it on. ?  7-1 =0300, 7-2=9999, 7-3=9999, 7-5=9000 and i get no group 3-#6 setting.

when you put your set chip in make it 9-1 then push button again set to 5, 10, 25, 50 or 1.00. It has to know what value.  If you set at 5 you get 20 credits for each dollar. machine will still pay same # of credits. after setting denom. push button again to save. Replace SP chip and you should be good to go.

getting closer.  It now accepts the bill but just gives it back and no credits. I tried several different bills. No luck. I guess the 3rd time was a charm. I actually set those settings twice before. How old do the bills have to be? any idea about the dates on the bills to help me there?

here's where it gets tricky, usually when that happens, it could be the wrong IDO  chip in the bill head, unfortunately , there is no switch to choose between IDO 022 or IDO 023,  maybe its on a sticker somewhere?  most times the coin in display will flicker a "1"  inducating the wrong IDO.  or

your SP 1271  is a IDO23  device.    I would say everything is good to go, except for the IDO issue.  That's what I was saying earlier, it will be hard to find the right SS chip number that will handle the IDO 022 protocol.    or find the right 145 chip with a IOD 23, then hopefully everything will work.

It's been a long time since I worked with the 145, so maybe someone else could chime in here.

I actually have sp1274. Everyone has been comparing it to sp1271. Could it be that I need older bills?

same deal, its a IDO 023 device as well,     022 will not work with a 023         plain and simple.      head IDO has to match the Game IDO, so they can communicate.   

bills won't matter until you get two that match!

Got it! So now I need to find an eprom that will handle an ido 022 and work with the double diamond 3 reel machine. Is that correct?

your best move would be to purchase a DBV 200 head, this has the software that is compatible with either, combined on the same chip. it is selectable by flipping a switch.  will accept more of the newer currencies, and has 4 way acceptance, and is a direct replacement for the 145 head. you may have to upgrade  you black power supply as well.  if yours has vents on it then you won't have to do that.

I have access to a sp731 and ss3664. I believe the machine should be compatable with the ido 022 and should operate correctly once I check all my settings. I will let you know when I get the chips and get it set up and ready. Here's hoping this will work. Thanks for all your help so far.

Sounds like some good progress today!   

Good: The startup sounds of your validator in the latest video sound pretty good.
Better: The fact that it attempted to accept a bill in its normal casino mode. 


You can sometimes cheat a $1 bill through with the wrong ID between ID-022 and ID-023 -- the pulses to the game are very similar, and sometimes (but not always) you can get a $1 to work with the wrong protocol.  I began thinking why it might not work, and it struck me that your machine was from the Trump Plaza casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Machines in Atlantic City were (and maybe still are?) set to not accept $1 bills.

With the power off, check the DIP switches on the bottom of the DBV-145 head (you'll need to at least partially remove the head from the machine in order to access the switches).  Ensure that DIP switch 1 in bank one is set to OFF.  If switch 1 is on, it is set to reject $1 bills.  Please check this before going further, as you need to make sure that the validator head itself isn't the reason it won't accept your $1.


Regardless, as Jim mentioned, the SP1274 is designed to be used with ID-023 bill validators, so while you may be able to cheat a $1 through, you'll ideally want to switch to a SP chip that is designed to be used with an ID-022 validator.

Also, I just noticed that the SP1274 is for Type 2 or 21 games (Haywire and Haywire Deluxe).  The SS4270 chip you have is for a 2-coin Double Jackpot Haywire game, not a 3-coin Double Diamond game.  Having the wrong game chips in there won't prevent the machine from working, but the payouts will be wrong once you do get it working.

Well, that's a step in the right direction.  I believe the SP731 is compatible with ID-022 (it doesn't state in the PSR, but with being that old I would think it's ID-022).

Also, the SS3664 is a correct chip for a 3-coin Double Diamond, so that means the payouts should be correct, too.

Go ahead and put in the SP731 and SS3664 chips.  No need to perform a clear, just replace the SP and SS chips in there with those chips and plug 'er in.  You should get an error code (or more than one) -- follow the resolutions listed here to get past the errors and get the machine to spin up as if it's ready to accept a coin.  You can and should use the pseudo coin in button on the bottom of the coin in optics to test if the game is working with the door open with a test game.  If it is, then the software has been installed correctly and you're ready to activate the bill validator.

You're just about ready to try your $1 bill now.  First, press the CASH/CREDIT button (or "CASH OUT", depending on the legend) until it lights up, if it will.  If it toggles on and off, make sure that you press it so that it is lit up before you insert the bill, or it will try to pay it out of the non-existent hopper.  We can fix that with settings later.

Now, try your $1 bill and see if the machine accepts it.  If it does, it will either give you credits, or give you a hopper error as it will be attempting to pay out of the hopper.  (If you do get a hopper error due to it trying to pay coins out of the hopper, you'll have to do a RAM clear with the clear chip to clear the empty hopper error, since you don't have a hopper installed.)

Ideally, you'll want to upgrade to a newer bill validator.  The DBV-200 might be a good choice, as it will use the same enclosure as you already have so it will be fairly easy to install.  As mentioned previously, if your bill validator power supply (little black box under the reel shelf, along the left side of the bill validator) does not have vent slats in the plastic, you'll also need one of the vented power supplies to run the DBV-200, as the non-vented power supplies do not have enough juice to run the 200.  The 200 has a nice feature in that you can change between ID-022 and ID-023 with the flip of a DIP switch.  The 145 can't do that.

The chips #'s are my fault. The old site had a post once about making a double diamond a dd haywire by changing to SP1274 and SS4270. He bought them to replace his tournament chips.

GUESS WHAT !!! It worked!!!  On the BV I set the dip switch to off and it now accepts the one dollar bill. It only allows 2 coins though so it is exactly as you stated. You have solved my problem! I will install the other chips next week and then it will give me a 3 coin credit I am sure. Thanks for all your help!!

Now get to the bank and get some older money. Feeding it 1's will be a pain. 50's are good and still available in the small head. Nothing with a big head or colorized will work. I keep a few 50's and 100's around for when I come upon these older DBV's. People that buy them are happy to trade a 50 or 100 to get one. I knew you would get this. It is pretty easy once you understand it. Make sure you get the PSR settings for the 731 so you can disable the hopper. One great way to avoid accidental cash out is to pull the whole switch assembly away from the button so it can't be pressed. leave it in far enough so the light shines through.

I just looked at the 731 PSR and I think you can use the same settings I gave you before. with 7-1 being zero for hopper pay. You will have to set 2, 5, and 8 again also.

Glad you figured the dip switch on dbv. I thought there were some on there but had no idea what they did. I think he will down the road go to the WBA as suggested.
