Slot machine won't take coins

Well, new day new issue. The bottom light (Green) on the top of the machine is blinking, not sure if that has anything to do with my issue but I figured I’d mention it. Every time I stick a nickel in, it falls into the bin (exterior), as ifnthe machine were off. I tried powering off and resetting it. I looked at all of the wires and everything is still connected. No codes are being displayed. I have also noticed that once you reset and close the door, the reels no longer spin and reset. Ideas?

Try re-seating the nickel in the comparitor.  You can also turn the little screw in corner of comparitor counter clockwise to lower sensitivity.

I replaced the coin, no change. The little screw is all the way clockwise, is that where it should be? I haven’t messed with that at all.

Is anything being displayed at all, or all blank?

Insert coin and 3 (coins played) is displayed. When you hit reset and close the door it does take a few seconds to load back up, but no reel spin and the coins drop out

Try turning it counter clockwise with a tiny screwdriver.

Are you sure you don't already have 3 coins in the machine and its waiting for you to hit spin ?

I miss wrote. It was turned all the way counter clock wise. I tried adjusting it and no change.


Yeah, I tried the max bet, 1 bet, and the handle with no luck.


It was literally working 1 second, then it wasn’t.

Make sure that the sensitivity adjustment screw is turned all the way counter click wise. That make the comparitor less sensitive to the coins being used.

It is all the way counter clockwise.


Anyone else have suggestions?

Try pressing the test button on the coin in optics and see if it gives you a credit when you do.  Then press the spin reels button with the door open.  Does it work? 

Do you have a bill validator installed in it?

The bottom light flashing means the door has been opened. Is the latch all the way down? Are the optics on the cash can door bypassed? On one of mine they weren't and the wire got pinched in the door and it caused the machine to see the door as open.

I pushed the button, it coined up and I was able to spin the reel with the door open. Once the door was closed, the reels reset, the numbers temporarily went away then back on and everything still doesn’t work. Cool trick with that test button.

Yeah, it's helpful in confirming that your MPU, reels, etc are working correctly.  I would suggest replacing the comparitor as the next step. 

You didn't answer the bill validator question, but if you have one installed does it work?

I have one but it’s not hooked up.
 What is the comparator?

It's the device that decides to accept or reject the coins based on the sample coin that you put in it.  It's mounted right above the coin optics.

Alright, well. Damn. Any vendors lurking?

I think there's a capacitor that fails in them, but I'm not sure what one it is or what size it is.  If you can solder it may be worth the effort if someone chimes in with the component to replace.  If not, make sure you get the right one for your machine.  Should be a CC-16 24VAC I think.  Pictures are always best.

The capacitor used in the comparitor is a 220uf 35V Axial style. I attached a pic of one on a board.
