Button panel tilt issue
« on: July 03, 2020, 08:44:16 AM »
I had one button on my game king that wouldn't light up but worked, i changed it with an unused one and it gave me the error message, i put them back and it worked but still not lit. I then moved another button and same issue and now i cant get the issue resolved at all. I have cleaned all contacts and still tilt message, any other suggestions.

I'm assuming you are talking about the dynamic button panel.  What is on the LCD screens of the buttons, does it say USB timeout or does it just have firmware version numbers on it?  I'm also hoping you did not swap buttons or plug/unplug any of the button panel related cables with the power on, this tends to screw up the blackfin board.

Swapping these buttons with the power on leads to various issues.  My guess at this point is that your blackfin controller might be having issues. Do you have a diagnostic USB drive and an ekey?  You need to see if the system is able to retrieve the dynamic button firmware and boot versions.  If it doesn't, you will need to get a working blackfin controller, or find someone who can fix yours.  You could have just zapped the firmware (best case), or blown a microfuse by hot swapping.  But you need to see if the blackfin is reporting itself to the system by using the diagnostic program. If you don't have that, you can also boot the system, then press the white button on the pci card (the one that has the ribbon cable) and look at the menu for the part that shows you the version numbers of stuff installed and look for the dynamic button panel information.

See photo. Somebody is selling an ekey 7 here.  Look in the classifieds.  The same person can probably sell you a USB diagnostic key.  I'm assuming you have family 14 stuff.  The only way to tell for sure is a photo of your version screen (found inside the admin menus) though.

What kind of cabinet is that a G20?  There's an HDMI cable that connects the button panel to the blackfin board, make sure the connections are good there, or try a different cable.  The blackfin is reporting to the system, but I don't know if the interface board that is under it is reporting to the blackfin.  If swapping the HDMI cable doesn't fix the issue, at this point my best guess is that the controller board is blown (hot plugging buttons will do that).  I see your buttons display the just the button position and firmware id on the buttons, did something else change?  You mentioned that it switched between usb timeout and the good luck message.

It's a G20.  The board where the HDMI cable and usb cable plug into is the one you probably need to replace.  I would plug and unplug all the buttons and try again just to make sure there is no loose connection. Also try a different USB port in the backplane to make sure there's nothing wrong there. If that doesn't fix it, then you probably need to get another button controller assembly.
