For some reason, I got the bug to get a 5 reel s2000! So here it is - picked it up yesterday. It's a multi denom "Triple Butterfly Sevens" 1,2,3,5 cent machine.  Maybe my EVO influenced me? I know the IGT is much easier to work on and I got this at a good price, I think.
It has backlit reels. Some don't seem to work but I've only powered it on one time. I need to play more and see the pattern of what's supposed to light. I'm assuming EACH pay should light up all the reels?
I remember seeing these machines during the hopper days (which I miss). Did these particular models usually start out as machines with hopper, that were converted by casinos? This one doesn't have the coin-in stuff, or the track, but the plug is there for the hopper.
If this did have the hopper, I'm thinking it would be a nickle hopper? Would the hopper typically be removed once it was set to multi-demon?

If it had a hopper it would also ha e to have a ticket printer for payouts less than whatever coin the hopper was set for. It would be kinda foolish though as even a small dollar amount of nickels is a lot of damn nickles. You could maybe set it as single denom quarters with a 400 coin limit or multi denom the same way with odd amounts going to a ticket. My Cleo was multi with a quarter hopper and a low coin payout limit with a printer

It was probably like that when it arrived from IGT.  You can buy all the coin-in stuff and get it going.  I did that with a machine that didn't even have the coin tray.  I had to buy everything.  Multi-Denom or not you can use coins.  I basically set the token value to be $100 so everytime I put a coin, I get $100 worth of credit.  In casino's I've never seen a muti-denom machine with coin-in/out, but that doesn't mean it never existed, and the machine is definitely capable of running that way, mine does.

"dosen't even have the track" .  This would be a depiction of a "Amusement Only game for home use only".  Quite a few things would be needed to put it coin in/out etc, Esp. more info on back of door/chute.  As you stated not even a track for hopper to slide in.  s-2k coin in/out equipment has increased in value.  As far as Back-lit on wins, depends on game -I am not up on this title but most Yes, Will light on wins on the line(s).

i actually have one of these at work i think only some of the symbols light up on pays. i personally have found that multi denom on coin in and out machines can be a bit of a pain. and even high credit games in general can be but i know a lot of people that will only play a machine if it has coin in and out.

It's DIRTY... that's for sure. Funny how some people never clean their machines!
The more I look at it, I'm fairly sure it did have a hopper in it. I have done three conversions back to "hopperized" machines. It's tempting to convert it to quarter... or nickel... they're cheaper!
The backlit reels are definitely not working. Just on light on the on reel stays lit. All the others are dark. I know there's a thread somewhere on this so I'll look before asking.
Reels are noisy too but it is a fun game to play. Seems I just remember seeing these at Harrah's in Laughlin.

If it's just dim that may be normal for the 1 bulb and the rest could be out if it's not led. You should have a reel light test in io tests I think. Also make sure you have the cable that runs from the cabinet io board to the light driver.

just curious are you the one i was helping with the evo a wile back?

I'll need to figure out where the light driver board goes and check that out.
Yes... it's me... EVO Mark. It's working fine so far. That was a huge project. I still want to get the top progressive to display something more interesting, eventually. I'll post that in the proper category though.

Thanks!!
Everything looks connected. I pulled one of the reels out... those plastic sockets are BRITTLE! I didn't have the 14 volt bulb but I put in a 24 volt and it came on. I suspect the bulbs are burnt out. Surprised that so many are out though. I also did the reel lamp test and now both the 12v and 24v go through the different light levels. Now I need to get a bunch of bulbs.

Use 359 bulbs, everything else is going to look very dim.

Thank you!
What I'm worried about is the plastic sockets. I just touched the one (I'm VERY careful) and the part that clips in just snapped off.
Should I replace the housings or is there an easy "fix" for this... like a little bit of Gorilla tape? (I've been using it lately...it's super strong reinforced tape made by the Gorilla glue people.
The one that broke actually stays in without the clip though... the wiring sort of keeps it in the hole, more or less.

It's gonna happen. IGT never tested new products for longevity.   The tabs on the front of the reels (with the reel numbers) and the light housings get very brittle. Most of the time, you can get the bulb to stay put with whatever's left. Unless you find new reels somewhere (and sell an organ to buy them), used replacements will have the same issues (some more than others no doubt, based on age).

Hmmmm I've got extra organs I don't really need... I have two kidneys - I wonder how many slot parts I could get for one?  :rotfl:
Ok thanks - I will be careful as usual. I may try and make up a little tape strap that I can run lengthwise along the sockets to hold all three in.
I'm still wondering if it's common that ALL my reel lights are out? Crappy lights? My Top Dollar lights are all fine.

FUNNY.... I always look up parts on ebay just to check prices... here's what I got when I put in "#359 wedge bulb."

Go with the boots...

I'll have to get a new dress then, to match.

Okay I found the bulbs at my local electronics store. They had exactly 14  #193 14v wedge bulbs. The man there said the xenon run hotter so I thought I'd just try these. I think they look great. I'm still surprised that 14 were burned out but all work now.
Only one other socket tab broke. I did a crude "tape hold" job in it and it holds the center socket in fine.  :applause:
The rest of the sockets actually held up as I carefully pulled them out using Q-tip instead of my fingers when removing them. I can tell that some were a little more burned than others.
STILL... what a crappy design using super cheap plastic sockets! I've seen higher quality in pachislo machines! What was IGT thinking?

If you want to fix this machine up as a keeper and need some reel parts let me know. I've got a bit of stuff for the narrow reels and more for the wider ones or LED reels including a complete conversion kit. Also have a hopper bracket if you go to coin op and need one.

He's wrong, the Xenon run cooler. That's why IGT used them.  Don't run anything except the XE359 for backlights. (unless you have the LED setup)

I have the #193 14v bulbs in and they're working fine now.
So they run hotter than the others? Ugh! This was the man who runs this HUGE electronics store saying this...
Will the bulbs I have now be a problem later?
If the others do run cooler, I'll reinstall them. Are they "whiter" looking when they illuminate the reels?
