"Storage Authentication Failed" error

These IGT G23 AVP's suck.

That's all I have to say other than I don't even want to fix it...

Everybody runs into this problem I see from all the posts about it and you need a frickin' $400 ekey which is just a friggen thumbdrive.

Could be a ribbon cable, hard drive, or something else...I wanna make a video of me throwing the machine into the St. Lawrence River from a bridge... :rotfl:

Do I sound pissed off? Yep...wasting part of my life on the piece of crap....worse platform I've ever seen. :soapbox_3:

There...I feel better...I just want to tell the casino bosses to get rid of this crap and get some other machines.

The 2 batteries on the pci card cause that issue a lot when they are dead

***update***


okay...changed out both coin cell batteries.....have a new "telltale battery error" message.


I think it's that  black plastic battery pack instead.


Going to take it apart.....what is the total voltage of it supposed to be?

I might have to make a battery pack....ugh....do these machines eat up batteries like thse old Bally 5500's???

If the machine has been off for some time. Let it run with that error. It will charge that one up and be fine after some time. The machine keeps that one charged.

I just had to let the batteries recharge up overnight, but it doesn't mean I like this AVP/SAVP G20/G23 platform any better though! :angry_kitty:

I found that if you just keep the machine connected to an AC source all the time, not powered up, the battery will stay charged.  I do keep mine on a protected power strips though with the power on.

Thanks idesign.
Unfortunately, after running for 6 months since we last talked about this, the "Storage Authentication Failed" error came back.
The machine has been powered up and [ON], 24/7 on the floor.

I'm wondering at what voltage do the tell-tale batteries trigger off a low battery notification from the MPU?
I do NOT have a "Low Battery" notification but I'm wondering when it does happen?
I cannot seem to find the answer to this in any of IGT AVP G23 documentation that I've downloaded from the NLG file system.

I'm trying to solve a that black screen that will keep booting over in about ten seconds.
It's been a mental challenge....lol

Others have solved this error from re-appearing either by installing a new pack of tell-tale batteries, wiping out Cabinet Memory and Safe Storage RAM, or wiping out hard drives utilizing the Diagnostic/eKey7 combo, or replacing an un-protected, paper thin ribbon cable that runs along sharp metal edges.

I've went into diagnostics and the machine tells me all the different battery sources are okay.
I pulled the tell-tale battery pack off the yellow-handled USB board, measured it and got 4.11Vdc on my multi-meter.
I do realize that it's more than 3.6Vdc but when disconnected, it's not under any load or draw.
I've tried leaving it plugged in but not on, the batteries will get recharged?
It does seem that the batteries are good...so I don't think it's a cause of this error for this particular machine.

BTW The St.Lawrence river is frozen right now...I'll throw it in there this spring....lol
