Bally 5000 Plus Safe Ram Clear
« on: December 09, 2021, 12:26:17 AM »
Having a little trouble and hoping for a little help. I recently bought the Balligator and trying to get it up and running, so far I've gotten all the light to work and the hopper to spin when hitting the advance button. The display reads 83 on the WIN and CREDIT line. I believe this to be a safe ram error. I've tried multiple methods from pulling out the IO board and holding the pseudo coin button, to replacing the U12 and U15 with safe ram clear chips off of ebay. I followed their instructions and still not luck. I'm thinking maybe that I did the sequence wrong or piggyback board or ?? I'm including a bunch of pictures and link to youtube of what's it's doing. Any advise or hep would be greatly appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7aRQcrHaeU

Anybody have the U12 and U15 bin files? I'd like to re-flash a new eprom and see if that gets me anywhere.

Can anybody explain safe ram clear on a technical level? I've followed the steps, I've erased and re-written chips, tried several safe ram clear chips for 5000+ machines and not making progress. Does the process actually erase information on certain ram chips on the mpu? Can I manually erase chips or certain line codes on certain chips? Not sure what my next steps are???  Any advise appreciated!

The two long, narrow, chips under the piggy back board are the RAM chips.
You should be able to read the battery voltage on those two chips.
Has the button cell modification been done correctly?
Post a picture of the underside of the board to see if the mods are in place.
If it was done correctly you should see a diode soldered across the two RAM chips and can read the battery voltage across it.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

I've got 3.6 at the battery and 3.52 at the small black diode measuring across the diode.
