Backlit conversion not working
« on: October 15, 2014, 05:00:06 PM »

Hi folks,
I recently bought a backlit reel kit off of eBay for an S2000 I Dream of Jeannie. This is the kit:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IGT-S2000-BACK-LIT-3-REEL-KIT-/191298630813?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c8a49749d

I performed the swap as follows:
- Swapped the reelstrips one at a time and powered the machine on to test. (To make sure the reels worked)
- Swapped the reel harness and powered on the machine to test.
- Installed the backlight board behind the bell.
- Cut loose what I think to be the power cable (it was tiewrapped onto another cable) and plugged it into the backight board (assume it is the correct connector since it fits and it is in the correct general vicinity)
- Plugged in the I/O cable from the I/O board to the backlight board
- Plugged in the reel harness into the backlight board

The reels work just fine. The lights do not light though. I only tested one bulb (The center outside on reel 1...I plugged that bulb into a Bally 6000 and it lights)

I believe this to be unrelated but I'll put it out....I recently fried my 5-5-2 display board by putting in an LED in the denomination light whose leds wrapped around (the leads wrapping around the wedge are what apparently caused the short). I just replaced that display board and it works fine. I also had cut the leads shorter on my led bulb and it works fine in the denom light.

Also, is there a light test (in the menu??)  somewhere where I can get the all of the lights to come up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

You have what appears to be the printer harness plugged into the controller board. The correct harness is above your controller & plugs into the left connector. The right one isn't used. It's a 6 pin connector with only 4 wires (red, orange, 2 black). Hope you didn't fry something.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

The pwr. molex on non-equipped s-2k's was wire-tied back around the pwr. supply harness, right top side and colored as rb said.  Some early vision games I seen a long time ago did not have this.  No pwr-no workie,  Bad back lit board-no workie.  Machine at idle will always illuminate bulbs at 1/2 pwr on all baskets and bulbs.  If it has a bell in it then it is deff. a older machine.  some of the newer back-lit boards have led's on them that will flash-signifing pwr. on board.

That was it. That power connector was hidden actually behind the printer. All works. Thanks!
