IGT S+ Wild Cherry problems and questions
« on: October 23, 2014, 12:29:13 AM »
Well as a noobie, I learned my lesson tonight. After spending about 1 hour getting a great post ready I timed out and lost it all! My bad!  :fryingpan:  Well anyway, I got it on Craigslist and it's been messed with. Seller said it worked until a couple weeks ago. Yeah, sure. It had a dead battery and I replaced it. The large white switch for the main door has no wires going to it. It has French/English on the glasses. BV says "Canadian currency only". Glass says 25 cents. When I open the BV door the roller switch has no wires (they've been cut). There was something else on the inside door, but is missing (plastic and broken off). To start with: I open the main door, turn the machine on, top candle lights are both on (bottom light is flashing), flashing 0 (zero) in the coins played display, after a few seconds the reels spin and stop (always stop at the same place), I close the door, after a few seconds reels spin again, bottom candle light goes out (top light stays lit), coins played display shows flashing 0 (zero). It looks like the machine is ready to play, but quarters just fall into the coin tray in front and nothing happens. If I start the machine, leave the door open, I can push the little white button on the coin comparator and load credits. I can then push the "spin" button and it seems to play OK. I once hit a play combination and it paid off 5 coins! So that's where I am so far. I have a SM by Marchall Fey that I down loaded.  I've looked around here and will try the set procedures tomorrow. I have had the 61 /61-1 looping problems, but will try again. I've also ordered a clear chip, but don't have it yet. I don't really care about the BV...I doubt it would take a US bill anyway? After reading a lot of these posts I am confident I can get it working...with your help. I will be up for a few more minutes if anyone wants to reply, but I'll get back on tomorrow to read all replys. Thanking all in advance.

Is there a sample coin in the coin comparitor?  If you don't know where that is, it is the black square box on top of where you pushed the little white button to get credits with the door open.  There should be a sample coin installed, otherwise, there's nothing the machine can use to compare the inserted coin with a coin the machine recognizes.  You can see what it should look like in the picture below.  If your machine is set for large coins (i.e. Dollar token type), the comparitor is installed with the coin side on the back, so you will have to remove the comparitor to insert a coin in it.

The large white switch to the door does not need to be there for an S+, it was used in casino's for their tracking purposes.  The BV Door's wires can be cut as long as the wires that led to it are jumped together.  Most dealers cut these wires and jump them together to avoid the bv door open issue since 99% of the time, they lack the door lock to keep the door shut.

Morning Rick. Wow. I stayed up way too late! Yes, it has a quarter in the sample slot.  I did the trick of holding the comp lockout lever open with a fold of paper. The quarter goes into the hopper, but "coin accepted" display does not light and it doesn't play. Sounds like I might need a coin optic PC? I see the coin comps for sale all over so maybe that's a good way to go? Seems to be cheaper to buy one than to try and fix mine.

Thanks for the info on the wires and switches. I think the main door optic switch is OK because the machine does respond when the door is opened or closed.

Yes, I would get a comparitor and a coin optic.

Just be sure to get a CC-16, 24v. The CC-16, 12v will not work in an S+.

Good news. While checking the coin comp, I found one wire broken. Fixed the yellow wire in the connector and now the slot will accept coins. And it is now playing...however, I need to check it out some more. I need to get some quarters and do some self testing. More quarters will let me play longer without opening the door all the time. I'll get back with you later. Thanks

Looks like the slot is working as designed. Great! Of course the bv isn't working. I don't really need it, but will probably check it out sometime to see if it can be made to work. The slot had two problems: dead battery and broken wire on the coin comp. And I didn't have to use the "clear chip". I did order a set of chips so I might try the set chip for the BV. The slot is set up to only use coins and I want to try to set it to use credits. Thanks again for your help.

You need a set chip to re-enable the validator since you replaced the battery.

I ordered a clear and a set chip. Don't have them yet. I didn't need the clear chip anyway since the slot is playing OK. It is playing OK using quarters. Each win is paid in quarters. You can play up to 5 quarters and then any others inserted just fall through.  The bv does not work. Remember, I replaced the battery. The BV  is a WBA-11-SS-USA-501-03. On the glass it says "Canadian Currency Only". So I don't know if it will accept US bills or not. I'll try the set chip when I get it to see if the BV will even turn on or work at all. I've never seen it work, but the seller said it "used to work" . Rick, I read your link about spset help. Very good link too. Thanks. Terms are confusing to me though. You use the term reset button...is that the same as the white "self test" button? What I'm going to try and do is set the slot to pay in credits and maybe take quarters and bills as credits (and then kick out quarters only when you hit the "cash out" button) BTW, do you know of a way to load credits on the slot without inserting coins or bills? I know the little white button on the coin comp will load up 5 "coins" (but of course they go away when you shut/lock the door). To refresh: it is a SP1309/SS3762 Wild Cherry. Thanks, no hurry, John

Yes the reset button is the little white button next to the power switch.   There is another thread regarding your other question.  Search the forum for SP1137, this chip lets you tokenize your machine, in short words, you can assign a credit value to each coin from 1 to 99 credits, and any coins you insert go right into credits.  You just have to purchase this chip and the corresponding set chip for it as it is no the one normally sold as a set with clear chips.

Are there PSR s on the NLG site? For the SP1137 and for my current one SP1309?

Well, I found a psr for my sp1309 chip. Now I need a SET chip for it. The PSR says use:  088, 089, 090, 091, 101, or 121. The chip I bought off eBay I think is a 015 and doesn't seem to work with my SP1309. I haven't tried yet but will look at the NLG classifieds.

I would definitely try the SET015 before ordering and waiting for a different set chip. Dozens, maybe even hundreds, of times, we've found that IGT documentation was not 100% correct when stating the Set and/or Key chips needed for their games.

There is absolutely, no risk whatsoever in trying the SET015. Worst case...it just won't do what you want.

Thanks CV for the replly. I agree. And I did try the 15 before I posted. I even reset the chip and board. When I turn the slot on I get 0 coins played, but the self test button does nothing. And there is no other displays. No matter how many times I push the test button, nothing happens. I put the SP1309 back in and  it still plays OK with quarters. But I lost the sound. And, of course, the BV still isn't turned on. (and as I said I haven't had the BV on since I've had the slot and replaced the battery). So I'll just take my time until a SET chip shows up for the SP1309 (at this time, I don't want to replace the SP1309/SS3762.

You can use self test to check if bv is turned on. Push test button 2 times you will see a 2 or a 5 in the left window. Turn JP key until you see a 9-? if it is 9-1 the bv is on if it is 9-0 it is off and needs the set chip.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

hello to all. I think we should all be required to post a final message so we know how it ended...right? So...I got my Wild Cherry all set up and everything works. i didn't use a CLEAR chip. I got a SET090 and PSRs for the chips. PSRs are a little confusing...to me...but after 2 or 3 trys, got it to work good for a home fun slot. First one I've ever worked on. Lucky for me all it needed was a battery and then set-up with the SET090. I tried a SET-15 first, but it wasn't recognized. I would like to get the "MAX BET" button set to auto spin the reels, but looks like that involves setting the slot up as a tourament or progressive slot and I don't need to get that involved. So thanks to all for talking to me and helping. I'll throw ya'll a ten spot to help (in a little way) to keep going. Thanks

Excellent! Nice to hear how the story ended.   Good job navigating the PSR! They are crazy confusing the first 50 times you read one!

Nope, look a little bit past those options in the PSR and you'll find the one you're looking for:

Quote
Max Bet Autospin
Option <0> [39]

Determines whether the reels spin automatically when the maximum bet is reached or when the Play Max Credits button is pressed.  Options are disabled {0} or enabled {1}.

Set option 39 to 1 and you'll be in business.

OK, knagl...you've encouraged me. After I got everything else working I was so happy, that when I tried to set the "max bet spin" option, I forgot something. The 39 option just wouldn't show up. Then I remembered, if you are setting options with the self test options, you have to be in an idle mode with NO CREDITS. So I ran off all the credits, cashed out some, and ran the self test again and there it was "39 0", set it to "39 1" and it works great. Thanks for not giving up on me! This is a great site and I think I'l be back. Regards, John   :thank_you:

OK. I set the max payout at 400. I'm not sure I understand what that means. 1. If the slot is set to pay out coins on a win and the win is over 400, does this force a "handpay"? 2. If the slot is set for credits and has over 400 credits (say 500 credits) and the "cash out" button is pushed, does that force a "handpay"? 3. and last, after a "hand pay", how is the slot "reset"? Thanks
