Top Glass Big Win Window?
« on: November 19, 2014, 06:53:19 PM »
Okay, this is a really embarrassing question to have to ask but, luckily, the folks on this board seems to have tons of patience with those of us that know nothing  :hail: .

The top glass on my S+ three reel Double Diamonds has a little red-tinted window next to the "Big Winner" combination graphic that has nothing in it (pic attached as if you need it  ) I've always assumed that there was some kind of LED display or something that would light up when you hit "the big one". I removed the glass and noticed that there is a harness plug not attached to anything (pic attached). Maybe this is the harness for my imaginary display :Scratch-Head: .

Anyway, can someone tell me if there is something like what I'm imagining? If not, what the heck is supposed to be showing in that window?

As always  :thankyou:

- Kenny

Without pulling the plug and ohming it out, it looks like I can trace it down to the big plug in the motherboard (pic).

I think that plug is player tracking stuff.  There was once a progressive display behind that glass, that is no longer there.  Take a picture of your top box without the glass so we can see what is inside.  You can buy that progressive setup, or you could just remove the sticker and place a top award sticker, your case 1,600 is the top award.

Yes Rick, the sticker is probably all I would want to do. I wonder where I can get a sticker that "looks right"? I did a Google image search and saw the pic below. I don't believe I want to go to the effort to add the electronics to this machine - maybe one day when I'm bored :scratch-head_2: Oh, and there is nothing in the top box besides the "normal" lights.

Thanks for the feedback Rok and Rick!

Here is another message thread where someone was looking for the same type of thing and one of the folks here had it but you'll need to ask for the 1,600 one:

Oh no problem. I just wanted to show you what WAS there, once upon a time. I have no idea how hard they are too install and program, but I doubt it's all that difficult. Someone on here has done surely.

Super easy to install and program, a lot easier than doing the Mikohn stuff for sure.  There were 2 types of mounts, one for 9" top, and for 16" top and round tops.  The 9" mounted on the top of the top box with the progressive meter hanging down.  The other one mounted on the bottom of the top box with the meter going up.  The one in your picture is for the 16"/round top.

There's just the one connector to plug into the top box.  Then you program the progressive thorough the setup menu.  Select progressive levels (1, 2 or 3 I believe were supported with this, most of the time it was just 1 level).  Set the initial amount, and percentage to add to progressive.

Sound good. I'd need one for a 9" square (?) top. Sorry, still learning the lingo  :Tongue_Out: I don't even understand the whole progressive thing. I know, pretty bad, right? I got a PSR for a SP872 and can't make heads nor tails out of it. That is gonna take some studying. It'll be like being in college again! I get the premise but it seems to take for granted that whoever is using it already knows what they are doing and that ain't me :arrowthruhead:. Oh well, it'll be fun figuring it out!

Hang in there, I'm still on the learning curve too and a lot of the terms throw me.

Here's how I understand it-

If you've ever been in a casino or seen one in movies you get the idea that most of the slot machines are individual machines. You play, and if you win, the win amount is whatever that specific machine awards for the symbols that came up on your machine. But the casinos can connect several machines into a group and add a top jackpot that is based on how much all of the connected machines are being played. This can be done even with machines outside the casino you are in, even in casinos in other states. This top jackpot is called a "progressive" because it progressively gets larger as people play these connected machines until someone somewhere hits it on one of the connected machines. After that hit the progressive jackpot amount resets to a starting amount. If you stand and watch the progressive jackpot display on the machine or above it on a large sign you will see if slowly increasing. It is sort of like the lottery where the top prize keeps increasing until someone wins, then it resets to a beginning amount.

The casinos even do this progressive jackpot thing on a group (bank) of video poker machines.

The progressive is a marketing idea to encourage people to play these machines and win that top jackpot. And it works.

Hey thanks Rok! That gives me a good understanding. So it's not something needed on a home machine (unless you have a whole bunch of them connected?). I definitely appreciate the reply! I know "old timers' probably roll their eyes when they see a question like that but we all have to learn sometime :cool_thumb_up:

Thanks again - Kenny

A progressive can be stand-alone as well, that is on a single machine.   A lot of us home slot owners have progressives on their machines, gives it that "casino" look.  There are several type of progressives.

Stand-alone, means just that, by it-self.  As the player plays the machine it adds a certain percentage of the play to the progressive, typically a quarter of a percent in most cases.

LAP - Local Area Progressive - this is a progressive that is linked up to several machines in the casino.  Typicall they are close together in a "slot bank" and a small contribution from all the machines in the bank go to the progressive total.

WAP - Wide area progressive.  These are progressives that span multiple locations.  They are usually linked up by the manufacturer of the machine.  IGT has Fort Knox, Nevada Nickels, Quartermania, to name a few.

It is important to understand, that progressive amounts are accumulated by players, and are thus player contributions to the jackpot.  In nevada, casinos are not allowed to remove a machine with a progressive that is accumulated because the law stipulates that it must be paid to a player and not taken as profit by a casino.  If they retire a machine with a progressive amount over the minimum, the difference is supposed to be added to another machine.

Here's one of my Alpha's running a stand alone progressive.
