I got my machine working great with a replacement MPU from CV Slots. Played all day and got tired of hearing a noisy ballast for the middle fluorescent light in the door at the reels. So I went to the hardware store and got a modern magnetic ballast with built-in quick start. I figured out the wiring by diagraming it on paper then pulled the reels, cut the wires, and wired in the new ballast. I reinstalled the reels and powered up. The fluorescents came on no problem but not display and no power to the reels! Dang, what the heck? I quickly rewired the old ballast and starter back in but no dice. Fearing I had somehow fried my new MPU, I removed it, removed the chips, installed them back in my old MPU and installed it in the machine. Still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas? How could upgrading the old style ballast and starter with a modern ballast cause this problem? Where should I start?
