S+ No display - no power after ballast upgrade?
« on: November 22, 2014, 09:17:48 PM »
I got my machine working great with a replacement MPU from CV Slots. Played all day and got tired of hearing a noisy ballast for the middle fluorescent light in the door at the reels. So I went to the hardware store and got a modern magnetic ballast with built-in quick start. I figured out the wiring by diagraming it on paper then pulled the reels, cut the wires, and wired in the new ballast. I reinstalled the reels and powered up. The fluorescents came on no problem but not display and no power to the reels! Dang, what the heck? I quickly rewired the old ballast and starter back in but no dice. Fearing I had somehow fried my new MPU, I removed it, removed the chips, installed them back in my old MPU and installed it in the machine. Still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas? How could upgrading the old style ballast and starter with a modern ballast cause this problem? Where should I start?  :Scratch-Head:

Plan to do that first thing in the morning Cowboy. Never been into the PS - it's in the back, right? I guess I'll have to pull the coin hopper to get at it. Never done that either. Should be interesting. What a letdown after she was working so good again. The better half says "you couldn't just leave it be, could you?"  :fryingpan:

Since your cabinet lighting is still working I would suspect the main power cable from power supply to mother board. 6 pin plug on side of supply. This plug is turned around so you can see the burn mark. You can push down with a small screw driver to remove the connector clean and tighten and replace or get new connectors that touch on 3 sides. The 2 green are - you have AC voltage there of I think 7, 8, and 24 ish see this thread http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=3830.0 then post 12 for document
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

Okay, got a blown fuse - the 8VAC. Off to the hardware store to get a couple just in case I have a short somewhere. I'll check the connectors before I try to fire it up. Fingers and toes crossed!
