Double Diamond Deluxe
« on: April 27, 2016, 03:56:44 PM »
Im having trouble getting my Double Diamond up and running.  Ran a clear and got to a 61-1 then got stuck there. Figured maybe it was the door optics so i replaced them.  Now on a 61-1 i turn the reset and im gettting a 0000 0000 and in credits played its alternating between 0,1,2.  The candles are off bottom slow flash top?  Any ideas?/

Did you close the door first, and then turn the reset key?

I did. I actually figured out I was in setup mode. Cycled thru and everything is working good. Anyone have any ideas on a finicky bill acceptor?  Bills seem to have to be perfect. Should I just get a newer one. Think this machine from 1994

Glad you got it going. On an S+ you will not be able to use some of the colored bills. 100, 20 etc. Most likely the optics in the bill validator are dusty or dirty. Water on a soft rag and drying is usually sufficient.

Not sure if it worked before. Just picked the machine up last week. Guy said the machine hadn't worked in 10 years. Model appears to be DBV 145. Can I change it out to accept new bills?

Your only option for accepting even some new bills is to convert to a WBA validator

Wonder if it's worth it?  Saw the conversion kit for like 225$. Not sure the machine is worth putting that kinda money into?

You can also get a DBV200 head and power supply.  Cheaper, but it will only take bills up to the new $10.  No new $5's or $100's.  But it will take bills all 4 ways.  Your dbv145 will only take bill face up and to the left.

Ok, not to hijack but..

if it already has the "Bill Face Up" bezel (or front stencil) why isn't there an option for just re-chipping the older DBVs for the newer bills and eliminating the orientation issue?  All the arguments I see are that the DBVs are limited in accepting newer bills because their lack of memory.  I'd gladly sacrifice the four way orientation option in favor of more bill generation in just the face-up option.

Somebody HAS to have hands on the chip binaries to be able to do this?

I would bet those binaries are as well protected as their game software. Wouldn't be good if someone could corrupt those files and infiltrate them into a casino.

The memory is an issue because it accepts not just current bills, but all the older bills as well.  As new bills come out, you begin to run out of memory.  If the bills are accepted four ways, there are 4 images of each bill that it can accept on the chip itself. The DBV-145's simply don't have enough memory to hold any more bill data, and that acceptor was a one way acceptor.  The 4 way DBV-200 accepts all four ways, and your method of "swapping" out the other 3 images in order to fill up the new bills with just one way acceptance would work.  The issue is getting past the security hashes involved in the firmware, it's not like you can download an e-book on how to do this.  With good reason, the security hash keys are not exactly public information since the validator manufacturers would have major issues if their firmware was somehow compromised and their validators started accepting non-compliant images.

I had once found a protocol convertor. It used ID024 (S2000) and changed it to a variety of other protocols. This would allow the machine to use a newer validator with the old machine.
I have however not been able to find a price for it.

Please forgive my noob perspective but, the DBV's are third party and used on many different vending machines beside just slots right?  Not just anyone can open any vending machine and swap an IC.  Sorry, I was a programmer in a past life and have to think this problem shouldn't be that big a deal to reverse engineer?  Unfortunately, I'm also too old to remember how to go about it..  :sillyme:

as a young engineer - I can assure you this would be quite a difficult task to say the least so much so you would want compensation for the work and time. Then we have a little problem of selling copyrighted hacked code. Gets a little tricky.
