Two IGT S-plus Slant Tops stuck on 61_1

I have an older & a newly acquired mid 90's IGT slant top projects......replaced dead batteries, have done clear, have tried to shock with sp1271, have swapped mpu's & motherboards around, have purchased used mpu & motherboard & tried all kinds of combination changes / swaps...........does not matter what I do, I can not get past 61_1on either machine......I have a RWB Rockets, 2 coin, .25 with sp731 & ss4861.......also have Sizzlin 7's, 3 coin, .05, with sp731 & ss3342 ....turn unit on, theres a slight nudge & then tension on the reels, zero comes on in the coins played display for a split second then error 61 shows up.......I can advance to 61-1, close lid, turn reset key,  does NOT advance to 65.......a new reset switch i have does not affect status either

OK, I'm guessing you get 61 then push button and get 61-1. Are you then closing the door and making sure it is latched all the way, then turning the jackpot key? If you are doing all these things then you need to check your door optics. After turning the key the displays should go blank the reels spin and ready for play. If not then cash box door may be open.

did close the lid, it does not latch like upright, it just snaps into lock mode.......did turn reset but there is NO change at all, on either machine

"cash box door may be open" ?.....is that referring to the dbv/catch can flip door with lock & cherry switch or the actual cash box metal door

It has to be a door issue. Not seeing as being closed. Find the optics on the door and cabinet side. Check the wires for them. I don't own any slant machines but know they have optics and have to line up before it will reset. May even be a cherry type switch that has to be closed. Is the cash can installed? Is the cash door closed? It is best to remove the wires from the cash door switch and twist them together so they are always closed.

There was another guy recently that held extra pressure on the door to get past 61-1. Then he was able to adjust the optics.

have swapped cash cans, no difference..........have taped cash can lid closed, no difference.....on slant top there is no cash can front door per se with a switch to direct connect wires..... there is a main hinged door that covers both the dbv & cash can and that cover does have a cherry switch with wires that run directly to cabinet optic, i have swapped out the cherry switch with other known working I have , no difference.........i did try pushing down on main door ( in this case Lid) while turning reset switch, no difference

I just asked this question the other day
When you opened the bottom door their is a cover that has to be moved to pull the pin that releases the door
Did you move that cover back to cover the pin?

i do have the bottom door removed and No I did not move that cover back....but sounds like I need to ?

Yes also if their is a cherry switch or optic down there you need to put the door back

Got it going ....thanks gentlemen....the cover does have to be manually moved over the release pin for lower door in order for the main lid to align optics......main lid still latches securely without doing this however it won't seat well enough for optics to align....
