Author Topic: MK6 restarting on loadup ? (Read 11117 times)

Hi All
I have recently started having an issue with my mk6 machine
Every time i turn the machine on it runs though the loadup screen and once it gets to "program loading verification ok " it just restarts
I looked on the old NLG site and found a thread where someone had the same issue and it turned out to be the Lab Comms board
I have change the board with one from my other machine which is a mkV lowboy and no change
The board on the mk6 is also a mkV lab comms board according to the markings on it, not sure if that makes a difference or not

The machine was working fine but then all of a sudden this issue

I wanted to know if anyone had the same issue and how it was solved or if anyone knew what the problem might be

If you have 2 machines it's a process of elimination, swap out mainboards etc.
Your machine is NSW then if it's got LAB comms pcb. Mk5 comms is same as Mk6 anyway.
Could be a riser board issue or mainboard more likely.

I switched out the labb coms board again but nothing
( i did notice that the wiring on the mk5 labb comms jumper pins is different to the mk6 )
Ive ordered a new mainboard that should be here tomorrow, i'll post the results once i try it

You have an update on your MK6 rebooting problem?
I have had this happen and was the Lab Comms,
Check the game eproms are seated firmly,
Also, were you using an XP motherboard?.

Still waiting on delivery of the new motherboard, hopefully tomorrow
I thought it might have been the game eproms but changed to another set and still the same problem
The machine is using an xp motherboard

got the new motherboard and swapped it over and no change
i guess the next thing to try is another lab comms board
Does anyone have one for a mk6 that they want to sell?

Your a week too late, I sold a spare one last weekend, only have my own spares now. Can source on for you but wont be chap with post etc. aprox $100 area, or buy on from Transcity in Melbourne

Have you tried a full clear?
One of my MK6 was doing that and I had to do a full clear and reset

Got hold of another lab comms board and tried that but still the same problem persists
Anyone have any ideas as to what else it could be
I have no idea what else to try

Heres what i have tied so far
tried another system eprom set (no change)
tried another game eprom set (no change)
installed a new main board (no change)
changed out the ram with that from a working mk6 (no change)
tried the mk6 labb comms board in another machine ( worked fine in a mkv)
tried the mkv lab comms in the mk6 ( no change)

The Power Supply can also cause the game to keep restarting, can you try another Power Supply?

Mmmm, You did not mention trying another Driver board, This could be the culprit....

I only have a mk5 power supply, not sure if they are the same

The only board left is the led driver board to run the progressive 12v jackpot leds (Big Red 2 Machine)
The only board i have i could try in its place is the mkV series 2 driver board from another machine
Would this work or cause more problems?

US versions of the MKV and MKVI power supplies are interchangeable
Gold is manual select of the input voltage, silver is auto-ranging of input voltage

just had a look
My mk5 has a gold power supply mk5/2 and the mk6 has a silver mkv
Will change them over tomorrow and post the results
