S+ Board fixers? Got an issue...
« on: May 22, 2014, 09:16:00 AM »
So, I know most of you guys seem to have piles of used boards and just swap in another when you have an issue, but I don't and am usually stuck trying to fix the board.  I did this with a bad 3rd reel chip a while back on an S+, and now have a different issue with a different slot.

Slot was giving a 3100 error which is a hopper error, but there is nothing wrong with the hopper (tested in another machine).  I took the chips off the board, swapped them onto a board from another machine, and after a clear and key procedure, the machine works just fine.

So, I took the board from the machine that was giving the error, put the chips from the other machine on it, and stuck it into the other machine.  Did the clear and key again, and the game seemed to come up - reels spin at startup, insert-coin lights up, takes money and gives credits.  But as soon as I pull the handle or hit the Spin Reels button, I immediately get the 3100 error.  Does this over and over once I clear the 3100 error.

Since I moved the boards between machines and the error followed, it's most definitely an issue with the board.  Any ideas?  Besides finding another board, I mean?

Did you check your battery voltage on the MPU? If it's too low you should get an error 12, but It might be nice just to rule out the battery first.

To see if it is the coin out input to the board remove the hopper and jumper pins 8 and 9 on the machine side hopper plug.

The hopper plug has it's pin numbers stamped into the plastic on the back of the plug.

Don't press cashout, just see if the tilt goes away after opening and closing the door a couple of times.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Unfortunately, the board is worse off than I thought. Went out with another working board (albeit a newer version of the s+) to see if I could get it running and bring the bad board back to the shop for repair attempts. The bad board won't even boot now. As soon as you power up, it starts making a recurring buzzing from the speaker. Clear doesn't work - just sits on zero. I swapped the chips to the newer s+ board and it comes up in a 62-1 that won't clear.

Just to verify the chips, I put them into a board from an adjacent working machine and the game comes up just fine. I don't know if the newer s+ board has some type of jumpers that need to be done to get it to work with specific sp chips or what. i took pics of the two boards but I'll have to post them later.

Brought the bad board back to the shop so I can do some testing in a machine I have there. I'll post pics later...

You ARE swapping like kinds of boards, right?

When you say "a newer version" of board, are you meaning a 16mhz or ??? The SP chip will only run on a specific MHz board, either a 10mhz or 16mhz. You CANNOT swap a 10mhz board for a 16mhz board and use the same software, you will get strange errors...
