« on: March 25, 2018, 09:22:19 AM »
I have 2 s plus machines ... one works great the other has no power to display.  ..  Can I swap boards to test them without it messing up my known working board .. I guess what im asking is if I put another board in my good machine then put the good board back in will everything be ok or will I have to do a clear or anything

You may get a 61 error when you move the board between games, but you shouldn't lose anything major.  Instructions for getting past a 61 error are listed in a sticky FAQ post in this section.  You may also lose any accumulated credits.

For the machine with no power to the display, I'd strongly suspect the power connector between the motherboard and the power supply, as shown in the following thread and multiple other posts here about the issue:

http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=14163.0

I would start by checking out that connector (with the power off) and reseating it a few times.  If the problem machine then comes back to life, that is your issue, and no need to swap boards.

I cleaned the post with fine sandpaper, unplugged both ends plugged back a few times no change .. if i put the plug on 3/4 of the way the reels get tight and the 25 cents sign light up . I put the board in another machine and all displays were on . i took the plug from the non working machine and plugged it into the working one .. everything worked as it should .. So im guessing that both board and plug are good in working machine . what should i check next ? Thanks for any help ..

If your power cable from non working machine works in another machine, I would suspect power not coming from power supply. Did you check all 3 fuses?

If you look at the doc. you can see which connections to check. Set volt meter for ac current and slide the flat connector up a little to be able to touch the posts. Try to only touch one post with each lead

so, you have determined that the board and the power cable from the bad machine work in the good machine, there by establishing that there is something wrong in the cabinet of the bad machine?  correct.

with everything back in place, turn the power on,  see if the reels are stiff, and if the denomination lamp is on, and if the fluorescent lamps are on. then, undo one fuse at a time and observe what happens, the bottom fuse is the 115 volt fuse, the fluo. lamps should go out , reels limp, put fuse back in, make sure everything is normal, undo the middle fuse, reels should go limp, put back in, undo the top fuse,  see what the reels do and listen for any crackling or popping sound from the speaker.  if you get a reaction from all these then more than likely all the fuses are good as well as the fuse caps.  if the reels are stiff and go limp and the denomination lamp is on usually indicates that the power connector is making the proper connection.

try this and report back.

did you check the plug for the display, there are two plugs, one for the denomination, insert coin, and coin accepted lamps, and another for the digital red displays.   did you interchange the display?

go to the top of the list in the S+ category,  you will see the S+ flip cards there,  look at them, it will tell you have a bad eprom , if you have other chips I would try that first and see if you can clear that code.

have you tried to press the white test button?  did anything happen?

That socket with missing contacts/pieces is not good, iffy connections. If the board is otherwise good you could look into having someone replace the socket for you. Might want to check the other sockets too, like the ones for the GAME eprom and the CMOS ram.

your game appears to be a clone of a double diamond game, so in theory, any SS chip for a 2 coin double diamond will work in that machine.

If you send the board to me I can replace the sockets and test the board.
