There isn't a checksum printed on the label. So it's anyone's guess without a bin to compare with.


I'm good with waiting on a chip. I do however need to visit the vendors list here. Ohio gaming is only 12 miles from me.

Well hell, give Ken a call then drop on by and I'm sure he can help you out.  Ken is good guy, and I'm sure while you're there you can find other things that you need that you didn't know you needed until your saw them there.

Those are all "rom signature" numbers, what is commonly called the checksum, in hex (hexadecimal). There are different math ways to compute a checksum, some methods are meant to give better security or ability to detect bad data. They listed the checksum result for the file using the various popular methods. The last one listed "7880" is the common checksum most hobbyists use.

But to use this info in the chart you'd have to know what the original chip checksum is, and that would come from the label on the chip, or comparing it to another identical good chip, or to a file that is known to be a good copy of the eprom contents. 

I don't think the MAME websites have eprom data for IGT S+ software, do they? I've seen PE+ software, but not S+.

Okay. I pulled the chip and did a re-read and compare and its not even the right flash. Not even close.


I got the chip back under the uv memoerase and will give it another go.

OMG - 12 miles??!!  Around here we drive farther than that to get ice cream. Take a truck when you go over there, he's been selling machines this past few months for crazy low prices, he'll make you a deal if you see something you want.

Went to Ohio gaming today and got an SS chip from Chris and we are good to go.  Nice place they have there. Had no idea they even existed.

Everything lines up correctly and seems to be fixed.

As for doing another read on that broken chip? Same read, same file. I think the chip I was burning to didn't survive the UV Erase procedure. eprom work in and of it self is an art that needs more practice in my world. I have been spoiled with EEproms and not fooling with any UV crap.

As I like to say often; a chance for experience is worth way more than what is lost in the moment. I walk away knowing eeproms are not eproms, what "UV erase" is and the capabilities of my tools.

As for this machine. I will likely not add it to my gameroom but I do like it.
