Weird All of a Sudden Error on Game King 6.2 - GK SHA Failure

I've attached some photos... I own an IGT Game King 6.2 - never had a critical error until now. But the circumstances around this are strange. Last time I turned the machine on was well over 6 months ago. Worked fine, no issue. I went to plug it in and maybe this is what caused the flash board to go bad... I plugged it into a socket while the power switch to the machine was in the on position. You hear that small pop sound like when you plug anything into an outlet that's already turned on... and that's when the GK SHA Failure "Check and replace flash" error came up.


Could the way I plugged it in have maybe damaged the flash board? I know after reading that these flash boards are really sensitive to static shock.


The reason I find this strange is because I hadn't turned the machine on in over 6 months. I obviously don't leave mine running 24/7 like casinos do so it obviously wasn't just normal wear and tear on the flash board unless it just so happen to be at the end of it's life. I became more familiar with what the flash board is and how to replace it thanks to this site! I thankfully found one identical to mine on gamekingslots.com and ordered it - still waiting to ship.


I love this machine to death - should I hoard up on 6.2 flash boards before they become obsolete? Obviously casinos are upgrading to newer game kings and who knows what's happening with the 6.2 flash boards or even the MPUs. Or are these more common than I think?


Could I even use a 6.0 version in this machine if I had to? From what I've been reading these flash boards can't really be fixed, nor do ppl even service them..? To even test them you need some like $3,000 device to reflash stuff? Way out of my expertise + price range.

Glad I read this post.  I live in Michigan 6 months during the summer and go to AZ for the winter.  I always unplug my GK machines before leaving Michigan.  Would it be better to leave them plugged in and just power them down for the 6 months or is it OK to unplug them. I sure don't want my flash boards going bad.

Should have posted before ordering a new flash card.  Gamekingslots.com doesn't have a very good reputation here on NLG and has been banned.  That said, I hope you get your flash card and that it works.  If not dispute it with your credit card company.

Check with member RB, there's a bootchip that allows you to bypass the SHA checks and that may get it working again. 

It's doubtful that plugging it in with the power switch on hurt anything.  Letting it sit turned off won't hurt it either.  Mine spend the winter in an unheated garage here in Michigan and stay shutdown usually until spring.  Sometimes I'll fire them up to check a setting or get information to help members here.  The bill validators are sluggish in cold weather, but the machines have always been fine.  I certainly don't baby them any, and the keep on going.  Hard to say exactly what happened with yours, but I doubt it was due to anything you did. 

You don't see a lot of 044 flashcards advertised for sale.  I hear or read something somewhere that IGT offered some type of credit to casinos in upgrading their machines if they turned them in.  Not sure if that's true or not.  044 MPU boards seem to be readily available though.  Spare parts are always a good thing to have.

It won't hurt anything.  I would unplug them too.  I envy ya a bit being a snowbird ha ha.

Yes I just revived another member's flash board that was failing DSA check by using a 39 boot chip to turn off DSA & SHA checks. I highly recommend it. Let me know if you want to try one.

Hey RB - yea let me try that first. I'll DM you. Gamekingslots hasn't sent me any confirmation email or anything - card isn't charged either so I don't know what's going on with them. Boot chip seems like a first simple thing to try and at least have if I get any future boards.

RB's magical 39 boot chip WORKED!!! I'm so happy! LOVE the fast boot up too! I still gotta go thru and config all my games and stuff but that's the fun part - just glad it's brought back to life with such an easy inexpensive fix! If anyone else has this issue, you might want to try this first! Thanks again everyone!
