You could, but I don't think you'd like the results.  Your paytables and reels strips wouldn't match, so you may see three bars (or other winning combination) and not get paid and visa versa, some apparently losing combinations you would get paid for.  If you want to upgrade it you really need to change the glass, strips, and chips.  I think haywire requires a different SP chip too, so you really couldn't do it just by replacing the SS chip anyhow.

Ok thank you.....let me go about this a bit differently......I have an s2000 double diamond with the sb1000 (?) Chip and ss  chip.....I swapped out the double diamond ss chip with double jackpot ss chip and got the haywire feature, no problems.......I was hopeful that maybe an ss & sp (type2) change might also get me haywire in the double double diamond slant top but I couldn't find any cross reference alternate ss chip to get the haywire function with existing reels lining up ok.......thought someone might know of way

You can do Haywire with your existing strips, a DJH SS chip and Type 2 SP chip. The pays would be fine. You can only do DLX by changing the reel strips and SS chip. Award glass payouts are the same for DD and DLX.

RB is correct about using a Double Jackpot Haywire chip in your game EDIT: Double Diamond to give it Haywire functionally. This is mentioned in the "Neat things you can do with S+ games" FAQ which I'm sure you read before you posted, right William?

I did read that, double jp on double diamond....just didn't see where I could use double jackpot on double double diamond

....and here I am in my workoom, trying to keep my mouth shut, and moving DDD reel strips to every imaginable offsets on the reel baskets trying make them work with Haywire chips?  :arrowthruhead:  :facepalm:
