809 Belly lamp replacement - how?
« on: April 16, 2024, 02:20:17 PM »
Hi guys - I'm scratching my head on this - how to I open the belly glass on an 809 ?  I need to replace the florescent lamp in there - and I'm not seeing any way to get behind the glass.  Does this require the removal of screws from the inner front door assembly?  I sure don't see any obvious way to get inside the belly area.  Please help!

Thanks

Mine has black screws.  Looking at inside of door  the left side screw is above and to left of starter.  Right side is between up/lower molex connections.  Look for black heads of screws in pics.

Looks like this has been answered with great pics jimliner. I had already searched archives of NLG and found this text instruction. I thought I would paste it here for reference in current environment. I find it interesting he points out to be careful when pushing because the entire chrome frame is free once you remove the screws, I hope he didn't learn that the hard way. LOL

There are two screws on the inside of the door, one each side, lined up with the sides of the chrome frame and about an inch down from the top of it. If you remove these screws, the belly glass assembly can be tilted forward from the top and lifted free. It can't be removed entirely, as there are wires attached for the belly glass lamp. It may be stuck in place if it hasn't moved for a long time, but those two screws are the only fastenings and you should be able to free it by pushing from behind. Be careful, as it may come free suddenly. The chrome trim can then be removed, allowing the glass to be replaced.

Marshall Fey's "complete" manual book is nowhere near complete. The Mead "Owner's Pictorial Guide" is much more comprehensive.

Wow - thanks for the great answers everyone!  The diagram from 702collector really helps me see what I am dealing with.  Much appreciated

And thank you Bruce G for getting me off my butt. I’ve had a belly glass bulb flickering in a Bally 873 for a week now  :thank_you:

Everyone’s brain works differently. The best part of this forum is you get diagrams, pictures, and typed out step by step instructions. Use one or all to figure it out.

So now that you mention it - the reel window lamp is a F6T5 at just under 9" long.  Are the belly glass lamps the same, or are they longer ?

Thanks again!

Please post when you find out! When possible I find LED equivalent bulbs. Many times they have a cool, sun, warm switch so you can compliment the art…and match the upper bulbs.
