6000 Live battery swap?
« on: November 07, 2014, 05:57:29 PM »
Folks,
I have a few Bally 6000s that I am slowly upgrading to newer machines. I am selling my very few machines off to mostly friends and family.

I want to make the eventual need to replace the battery a non-issue for whoever buys this machine (if that is even possible).

One of my machines has a AA battery holder in place of the 3V lithium (done by the dealer I bought from as seen in the attached pic).

Is it possible to swap the AA batteries while the machine is on, to avoid losing the settings by doing the following?
Add a AA battery holder with very long leads (connected just like it is in the picture). Double sided tape it to the front outside of the board.

Thanks.

If you have a way to access the batt. holder without pulling the board out it may work. Why didn't you try it before you posted?
If it ain't broke.....Stop trying to fix it.

I am asking if it can be done because I don't want to damage the board somehow if this isn't supported.
I wanted to see if someone has tried this.

You can't hurt it by removing the battery. If it needs it it just won'the run without it

Perfect. I will give it a shot. Much easier this way than guiding someone that isn't familiar with it to pull the board and swap the AA batteries, and then guide them through re-programming it. Although some of my family members might even find a way to screw this up.

Along those lines, once I showed a cousin how to upgrade the RAM on his computer. Pretty easy right? He was confident. After he did it he calls me to tell me that his computer won't come up after the memory upgrade. After some diagnosing, I realized that I neglected to tell him to turn the computer off when he did this.....sigh.....he fried his motherboard.

Thanks!
