To have a pro-team in Las Vegas or not no longer hinges on gambling.
Sports betting is legal in Nevada. The question is how do you insulate the game from potential corruption.
Just because the bets occur in LasVegas doesn't mean you could not corrupt a Miami player to make an error (baseball), foul (NBA), fumble (NFL), or missed pass (NHL). Then bet on the Miami game.
Just like card counting you just want to throw the odds to your favor. The pro players all get stupid salaries but they do have their vices like women, drugs, gambling, etc and could potentially be blackmailed into something. Then of course there are the college players who may not necessarily be a starving student but a could see a couple thousand for dropping the ball is easy money especially if they don't expect to go pro.
