WBA-12 Not Cycling
« on: June 15, 2020, 12:40:27 PM »
Hi, I was gifted an IGT S2000 and am systematically trying to get it up and working. My bill validator (WBA-12-SS) does not make any noise when I power on the system and doesn't light up at all. That said, the two LEDs on the side are solid red and when I run it through test mode, it seems like the forward and reverse cycles are working from the sound of it. I've tried to run through the other diagnostics with the dip switch settings, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for when testing the sensors. On the unit itself, I've entered diagnostic mode and made sure the bill validator is enabled, plus ran the I/O test and it does detect both the printer and bill validator. When I enter the bill validator menu and run test bill, I get a message saying "bill validator door closed" and nothing happens. It's never worked since I received the unit, so I don't know if I just need a new bill validator or if it's something that can be fixed. Any help?

probably the bill validator door closed  is because it is bypassed and would be seen as closed.  remove the cash can,  put switches 1-2-3 down and 8 down,  now insert the transport into the machine, power it on. now push switch 8 up, the unit should  cycle, now you should be able to insert bills into the unit, it should take them in and deposit them where the cash can would be.  if it does this then the transport is doing its job, if not then it is bad.  if it is working,
then it could have the wrong ID programmed.

did you run the auto config. when in the I/O test?

Hi, thanks for the quick response. Did exactly as you recommended and in test mode, the validator did take the bill (although it sounded pretty unhealthy doing it). Reset the switches and the unit and now I'm getting a "bill validator stacker open"message on startup. You are right that the door is bypassed (the green and blue wire are crimped together), so I'm not sure why it now sees the door as open? Broken wire maybe? I ran the autoconfig and it detects the validator as installed... how do I check if the wrong ID is programmed?

Appreciate the help
Vlad

When that bill went in, did it credit the machine?

Hi, no it didn't credit the machine. I think it was just testing whether the transport mechanism was working, not necessarily whether the bill validator worked.

Does the machine work?  do you think the machine is seeing the main door being closed??  this usually will reset any fault codes etc.  you can see what ID the Bill unit is by going into the test mode- accounting-version- scroll to the bill unit, it will tell you the SB chip. game chips, and the bill unit IDO, plus a bunch of other information.   Is there a cash can?

The machine is working, yes, when I close the main door it resets the fault codes and the machine appears ready to accept credits. And yes, there is a cash can. I ran the diagnostic and the Bill Unit ID scrolls as WAB-12/13 024 V3.80-34 - is that the correct ID?

Yes it is, and it's the newest update.

have you tried to insert any money into the unit??  did you check to see if the light bulbs in the door bezel  were any good?  check the three connections on the back of the bv unit, power, I/O and door bezel,  check the connection for the door bezel behind reel #1 black/yellow and yellow wire.  other then that, the transport could still have a problem seeing the cash can or the shelf assembly could have an issue with the flags that interact with transport unit.

the only sure way to know is to test in another machine or have the items tested elsewhere.

that is the right IDO for your machine.  Don't know what else I could tell you to try??

Hi, thanks for trying to help me out guys. I'm definitely a newbie but not afraid to troubleshoot down to the board level. Sunrise: yes, I tried the auto configure and it does detect the validator, but I still get no LED at the door bezel and no cycling noise at boot-up. And no, it does not take any bills when I try to put one in. Jim - regarding your suggestions... is there a quick way to check if the LEDs on the bezel have burnt out? Would the LEDs not being functional have any impact or just cosmetic? I checked the connections on the back and all seem solid. I disconnected and re-seated all three, but no change. And the door bezel connection behind the reel, I also re-seated. When you say the transport might not be able to see the cash can or the shelf assembly could have an issue with the flags, what do I do to check that? I have a digital multimeter so I can check voltages and continuity... I'll try that for the connections. Is there a wiring diagram for the connector at the bill validator with expected signal levels? I do also se a few connectors hanging near the MPU... I think one might be for the progressive, but maybe the others are meaningful. I'll take a picture if it helps.

Thanks again,
Vlad

Is it possible this is a problem related to the Varta battery? I clipped it as soon as I got the unit, but as I look closer at The surrounding components it does look like there may be a bit of of corrosion at the adjacent diodes and the chip nearby. I tested the diodes and do see a voltage drop so I think they are still working. Pics attached. What's the best course of action if there's damage.. Replace the components around there or get a new board?

Latest check I noticed one tab on the optical sensor block was broken. Might be that the sensors are not fully seating, though when I put manual pressure on, nothing changes. Pic attached. Might be time to bite the bullet and just buy a known working unit.

Well, seems like everything I've tried has failed to wake this thing up. Any recommendations on a replacement bill validator? My preference is to replace the head, cash can and wiring harness. Will I need to replace the bracket and duck bill as well? Recommendations?

Thanks,
Vlad

S2000's are getting cheaper by the day.... you might consider grabbing a whole new machine, as often a set of new parts might be what you can get a whole machine for.
That way you can swap the DBV/WBA from one to the other to give you a baseline of whats wrong.

That way when this project is over you can start playing with linked progressives.... slot tournaments etc.....

Slot ownership is a slippery slope. I started with 1 which is now 3 + a video poker.....
