same thing ted and i were thinking....cant get to it for a few hours, but we were just gonna swap cpu's, but since the pci controls the doors, will probably swap the pci card first, then the cpu if nothing changes

It is more than likely the pci card.  I had suggested that in this thread--Have worked on too many of these things!.

Yes, Try that.  I have had so many of these and in the early going I would just switch/black box parts and wasn't quite sure what the fix was.  Well after a couple hundred plus I know now.  If that does not work you may need a brain box or lower main board,  If the pci does not change things (I think it will)  before changing box you can try a new virgin memory stick but it must be to required specs.

this is unbelievable...


cpu was switched with another...machine fired up corrently..all doors showed open that were open...due to not wanting to mess up the or change anything on the swapped cpu,  it was pretty much determined that the original cpu or pci card was bad.


after reinstalling the original cpu, we noticed that the doors were reading correctly but flashing...the power cord and other cords were messed with rechecked. 


was able to set up game, but bill validator was not active....restarted machine...everything booted up as normal...acceptor took my 100 bill...


hit spin reel button...play 50 credits went to game, 50 came off my total credits...reels DID NOT spin..machine locked up....after approx 30 seconds, machine auto rebooted


now at reboot...red screen, says "fail to slam spin in group avp shelf reel".turn attendant key


reboots but with reel tilt ...one message says "secure reel tilt must be cleared" and the other is just reel tilt


able to open the door and clear the tilts, but the first few times i was able to hit the spin button and again, credits came off but machine froze then rebooted...


on 3 occasions, the reels spun, credits were won but then it rebooted again...i was even lucky enough to hit the free game spins....thats where i am now...1 free respin hit, paid then reset...rebooted, respun and froze...


any ideas? pci? cpu? reel issue? door close issue?

weird behavior like that.  I would try power supply and/or memory simm.

I have had that problem numerous times.  It is more than likely the wrong flash on the reel driver shelf.  Go to support,version and see what flash the reel driver board is at.

which power supply?   i swapped out the one that is on the side of the cpu, wire harness, ribbon cable


using the e7 key, i see setup and versions, but do not see anything labled reel driver board, or flash


i do see the line "avp 22 stop reels"...


again, the machine worked perfect *except for able to play with doors open*...nothing much else has changed

The main power supply, looks like an s2000 power supply.  If you have already replaced the MPU's power supply, it is the only other one left to try and discard power issues.

Yes,  In there you will what brf# is at/version.  I highly doubt this is a power supply issue.  The machine sees a problem when the reels spin.  Does this have color reels and a color light bar in it?.

i dont have another power supply to swap...heck..i dont have the memory simm either...i will have to see if i can borrow a friends

the reel lights are red green and blue...suprised there isnt a white


each reel divider has red, green, blue, white...the connector in the upper right corner has alot of  multi colored wires attatched to it

Since all the swapping and moving things around--Confirm that The game you are trying to run is A: Compatible with the rel driver board,  B: You have the correct button deck or configuration selected--etc.  I try to help but when folks cobble shit together it discourages me.   Sometimes folks just don't listen.  Your initial problem with no doors open or closed for that matter was 99% pci card dicked up.  You don't learn unless you monkey around--I get it.

i put all the original parts back in....machine shows doors as it should


tried playing 1 spin, same issue with the reels...they dont move...all else seems to be working fine


we are gonna do a complete wipe tomorrow, hopefully now that all the door issues are resolved, we will have a clean wipe


any idea where i can find info on the on the correct reel driver bios, correct reel window light bar, anything else you can think of that i need to check??

wiped hd, backplane and pci card...reinstalled software...still no reel response


changed reel driver chip to xxxx4 (was xxxx3)....no change


looking for my sledge hammer in the garage....

latest update...installed a different game, this one is 3 reel 10 line 50 credit...played perfect


swapped my tray, reels and harness to another machine running the game that malfunctions in my machine...reels stuck, froze machine, rebooted like it did in mine


re-swapped tray, but put my reels in machine...reels spun and worked perfect


end result....believe to have a bad reel driver board on back of my tray.


will be looking for another board in the next few days...might have one in dayton


will follow up in a few days when i get the new board

here is the latest, not so good update...


got a new reel tray..the machine i got it from had had a 3 reel 5 line game in it..it was untested
wiped backplane and pci memory
loaded the newest 10 line game..worked perfect
loaded the "trouble game"
same issue...non responsive reels
[size=78%]what in the world??  i cant believe that i would have gotten another reel tray with the same problem[/size]
[/size][size=78%]bios on new tray was updated to 4, which was the same as the other testing machine[/size]
same issue...non responsive reels


other suggestions other than a sledgehammer (already considering that) would be greatly appreciated
