Ok, here's the next issue with the next machine I'm testing.

Game nearly booted, had a Stacker Error that I cleared with new Cash Can.

Next I received a "Telltale Battery Low" error. Don't know where this battery is and if the machine will play without it like an S2000.

Main problem is it showed "No Game Enabled", so I went in the menu and enabled the game that was installed on the hard drive. Only theme available.

After enabling the game, I'm getting a "Game Theme License" tilt.

Machine has a dongle installed, see photo. Is this not the actual Licence dongle? What's the work around or proper steps to enable this game to play?

This dongle was installed in an upper slot on the MPU when I received the machine. It has a 3.0 Brainbox. Does it need to be installed to play?

Sorry for the ignorant posts, but I'm not up to speed on this platform.

Appreciate any inputs.

Telltale = Battery Pack on backplane board.

Your license dongle is only for game 4 V12, is that the game you enabled?

Telltale:  NOT located on the CPU board like an S2000.  The AVP has a large, multi cell battery that is plugged in to the backplane board.  (the board on the back wall of the cabinet down below, to the right of the 3.0 Brainbox)
You need a special battery.  Available from most slot suppliers, or Happ Controls.

May as well replace the 3 coin cell batteries in the Brainbox while you are at it.  2 on the PCI card, one on the board on the bottom inside the box.

As for the license tilt, you need the proper license dongle plugged in to the backplane.

There is a way around needing a license dongle.  If you replace your boot chip with a "special" boot chip, no license dongle would be required.

MVCO,

I did see the large battery pack on the backplane and figured it might be the Telltale, but I didn't mess with it.

I pulled the MPU, cleaned the filters and fans, then replaced all 3 coin cell  batteries, and I'm guessing that's where I lost my game data.

When trying to enable the game again, none of the characters for Sizzling Sevens matched the dongle numbers, but that's the dongle that came with the machine. It could have been just stashed there by some tech on it's way out of a casino. The game probably didn't play anyway. So who knows what that dongle is really for, but the hard drive shows the correct game for the reel strips and payline glass. I just can't enable it.

I'm aware of the "special" boot chips, I have one in my personal S-AVP. All of the games for the kits I have are already on the drive, so all I have to do is swap strips and reel glass, then enable the game i want to play. Very convenient.

I'll pull the machine back out tomorrow morning and pull the battery pack and try again to use that dongle. If I still can't get it to work, I'll have to try to find the correct license.

Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like someone changed out that dongle when it was surplussed.  At least that boot chip swap can get around that.

Yes, replacing batteries always disables the game.  I also love storing a bunch of games on SAVP's.  So quick to swap games.  lot's of fun!  Love this platform.

So out of curiosity, there is no way to get around having to have a telltale battery like you can with Game Kings, correct?

Not that I have ever heard of.  At least they are quick and easy to change, using their own little connector to connect to backplane.  No soldering or anything.

Got the game problems figured out.

Harvs walked me through the wipe and reload process. I had the correct dongle, the problem was the date and time on the machine. Wasn't set to correct year, so dongle license wouldn't authenticate.

Still need to change the battery pack to get it fully operational.

But at least I can see the game now and the battery is the only tilt.

Thanks again everyone and especially to Harvs.

You say the date and year was not correct to the dongle. Do you have to use the date of manufacture of the dongle , in the settings? I know nothing about SAVP. Just might need this info down the road. Thank You! Tim

No, just the current date, with the year being of special importance.

Should've clarified a little better....

When I changed the batteries the machine set itself to some random date in 2004. I didn't pay any attention to it and just went straight to "Enable Game" in the menu. Apparently the license dongle didn't like that date and therefore failed to authenticate.

So, the next step was to wipe the RAM and start back over using the Diagnostic key and eKey.

Setting the proper date and time through the setup menu allowed the license dongle to work once re-enabling the game and denomination.

Learned a lot today about this platform.

And I was able to find some new Telltale batteries to replace the dead ones. Minimum order was 10, but I got a killer price on them, less than half the cost of the ones at Spin.

So, if anyone needs one or two in the near future, let me know. I'll only use 4 or 5 of them.
