added picture - in the interim I have checked switches and all are working as in switching but do not know if they are active ground  or what signal is the unit looking for from the start button?

So tell me if you are using the "DEAL/DRAW" button for the start button?

Yes I am trying to use the draw /deal button but nothing  happens . I replaced the CPU board with another and the same thing occurs - same screen and will not accept a Deal/ Draw button selection I have checked the switches out with an ohm meter and they check out OK . I do not have a schematic drawing of the switches and do not know what signal is required for the CPU to react.

I would check that wiring to the button itself. Even if it ohms out as a working switch, the wires may not be making contact to the connector that plugs to the bottom of the switch. If that doesn't do it, I'd trace the wires of that switch and make sure there aren't any breaks or disconnects along the way.

Hey hey,

I know this may sound simple, or nearing naïve!  When you get to the screen as pictured above, have you turned the jackpot key first?

Thanks I have traced wire back to back panel connector and there is continuity to the switch . ?What is the signal required- Ground? Cheers :agreepost:

Let's go back to ricker's thought...
Check the wiring to the reset key switch itself and check that switch for continuity.

Okay let's go back a bit... Make sure the chips are all seated properly, no bent legs, etc... Look through the entire MPU board...both boards. I realize you have tried with two boards but it doesn't hurt to rule them out. Also, make sure the MPU is firmly seated into the back panel connector.
