Bally Video Draw Poker Machine Bad Battery Message v 2363-1

I am new to all of this... I have a couple EM pinball machines and my wife bought me this Video Poker Machine because the salesman told her it 'just needed a battery....
It boots up where I see the backs of 5 cards, but above them is "BAD BATTERY"
I don't know much about electronics...I think the battery is the blue cylinder is the picture.
Do i need it?  I would assume a pinball repair guy could fix it?  (I have one local to me)
Also, the coin comparitor light does not come on... is this a result of the bad battery, or another issue?
I tried adding credits by flicking the metal wires that the coin passes by, but nothing happens.
I would like to get it working correctly in the long run, but even set up for free at this point would be a plus.

unfortunately , you will have to replace the battery. typically, those were 3.6 volt, ni-cad Varta batteries. I suppose any 3.6 with the same amp. ni cad battery will work. 

sounds as if you may have other issues, hopefully not, but you have to start here.

Hi Rob.. I have heard of people using battery from cordless phones.. If you have a battery store in your area, they should be able to help you.. You just need the correct 3.6V and something with similar amps.. If you still have problems contact Larry Weber at K-Lar in Vegas at 702-363-9998, they are the experts on these machines..

If the game has been off for a while the battery will discharge, leaving the machine on for an hour will charge the battery if it is capable of still holding a charge.

Sometimes flipping DIP switch #6 in the opposite position fixes the low battery message.

You should use a rechargeable Varta battery if you need to replace the battery.

There is a mod you can do on the board so it takes a Lithium Ion non rechargeable 3.6V battery, it is shown in the manual for these boards.

I would recommend sending the rack to Larry though, there may be other issues I can find on our tester and fix while we have the rack.
