The way the machine is acting makes me think you might have a chip issue because the 2nd board worked differently on the first boot. It wasn't oriented to the motherboard so it would have been different the first time and the same on second and further attempts after it was synced to the motherboard. It could of course still be 2 bad MPU's but it could be a bad chip or chip set match also. That's why I want to find out what those SG chips are. Other than wrong payouts a mismatched SB chip should only cause a problem if it was, say, a 3 reel SB chip in a 5 reel machine

I've been looking but not had much luck so far as to the sg chips. I'll keep looking. I agree that it was strange that it tried to boot. Both act the same way after the initial boot attempt so that's why I have a mother board coming also.

Try this. With the door open hold pressure on the MPU towards the mother board. I had a mother board that did not allow any board to plug in tight. Mine would boot up sometimes and always go off during a spin or any movement of the machine. After changing it all was good. I found it would boot until I closed the door. Good Luck

I removed the board then reseated it and held pressure but still no change. I removed the mother board today and inspected all the connections and everything looked good.

I had a 1270 board that worked once like yours after I removed the battery and U16 then did the red LED and no boot thing. It pissed me off and I put in the pile of "I try to fix it another day" about two months later I pulled it out and just a very small blotch of solder rosin( not solder) residue was  on the board around where the U16 was. I scratched it off with my fingernail and it has been working ever since. The voltages in that area are very low and anything that might bleed it off will make the board inop. Check that area closely for anything like that.

This one is getting the better of me! So far I have swapped the mother board, CPU, power dist. board, power supply, swapped chips, and still all I get is all the lights on the mpu lite and the red light flashing. I also swapped the in out cards,
Anybody have any ideas from here???

I tried that and same problem. I guess from here I'll go thru each wire and connector and check for continuity.

Your pic. #11 is showing (I guess) the VARTA battery removed? I have read about having to remove other components for that. I don't have any enhanced boards, so I'm just guessing. Can you shoot a short video of power up? Maybe there is something we can see or hear to help.

Varta and regulator removal looks good that is all that needs to be done. What is the history of the board was it ever working to your knowledge? Have you tried another board in that machine?

There's been a lot of posts on this thread so I'm kinda confused where you're at on this.  SB10164 is missing the last number.  There are 7 different themes that start with SB10164, and none of them are butterfly.

The SG000539 chips are the replacement for SG000314, 373 and 397.  They are compatible with your version chip, but could you verify or post a pic of your SB?  Also, IGT lists this in their program summery report:

GAME TYPE This version supports S2000 games with single and multi-denomination capabilities. The available stepper slot game types and games are: Type 111 (Base Paytable Only) designed for use with AC Coin external bonus devices.

Normally when I get a red light on my IGT boards it's due to an EEPROM issue, either a bad chip, bent pin, backwards chip or wrong software.

Edit:  One correction on the posts above, SB100955 is listed as Triple Double Stars. I've got a Triple Double Butterfly 5 reel 9 line on my gaming floor, and it's SB100926, with SG000362 chips.  That's also listed as Triple Double Stars, so it seems that SB chip is cloned in more than one theme.

Triple butterfly  3R9L45CR uses SB100992
Triple Double butterfly 3R9L45CR uses SB100955
Both work good with SG363

SB100009 is for 3R1L3CR Triple butterfly
Also Triple butterfly , Triple Lucky sevens, triple red hot 7s and Triple Stars are all clones using the same SB chips
Hope that clears things up
