New S2000 Project kicking my butt.. Stuck at close main door..
« on: October 12, 2016, 08:16:58 PM »
Started on a new S2000 project. My first problem a dead machine except the service light. Found the power supply was bad. Next I powered up the machine, but I could not get past close the main door.. Tonight I changed both optics, and the MPU but I still have the same problem that I can't get past the close main door message.. The second MPU, I tried was just bought a couple months back as good working.. It cleared just fine, but the same close main door message stopped me.. I pulled the door IO and swapped with a good working spare, Then I pulled the cabinet IO and found a nut inside with the IO board.. I found that the cabinet IO was damaged (burn mark) from the nut inside.. Swapped it with a good working IO, but no difference??
My Question is do the optics run thru the IO cards? Next is about the optics.. Are the cabinet and door optics the same or different? I would think you have a transmitter, and a receiver? They look the same to me? What am I missing? I was thinking of trying to bypass the optics, but what plug on the mother board do the wires run too? The picture of the optic bypass is very vague. All the plugs seem to be plugged in on the mother board..

Gary the optics do have a transmitter and receiver.  Yeah they look the same. You may have them installed opposite or I've seen guys get them mixed up and have 2 receivers or transmitters. Do you have a working machine to try them from? Just a thought in the early morning.

Dave Good Morning..

Yea I have a couple machines here I can use to test them in. I'm just one of those people that hate to tear apart a working machine to test parts that should be good.. Plus I get lazy..  :fryingpan:  You would think that if the optics were meant to only be used on only one side that the plugs wouldn't be the same.

That's always been the trouble. Those plugs. On mine the cabinet optic has the glass dome and the door is the flat top. I know what you mean, then you have to adjust everything back in. We had a guy on here who said he bought 2 sets and then a 3rd and the first 2 were both bad. But the last one finally fixed him up. Also S+ and S2000 optics are interchangeable.  Good luck man.

Seems that I was fighting three problems at the same time..  :banghead: First was that I had a bad door optic, and the MPU was bad, it would not advance past the close main door message after doing a clear on the MPU.. It seems too that I had a door optic on the cabinet side too  :duh: .  At least tonight I was able to get thru the setup procedure and play the machine.  :dancing_2: Now I can start the always fun job of cleaning years worth of casino yuck  out of this thing..

Thanks for everyone's help...   Gary   :thank_you:
