Red screen on PINK PANTHER vision
« on: November 01, 2016, 09:35:26 AM »
Hello,

I posted a while back about my intention to get a non working Vision. I finally got it today and I hope I will find some experts who will be able to guide me...

Here are the pics attached, they talk for themselves.

Thanks for taking a look.

Top box is missing its backup battery.  Was this the original game in this slot??  Pink Panther I think takes more memory to boot and run and other vision games.  Others on here can confirm that.

Thanks for your message.

I removed the battery to have it tested. I will know if it is good or not tonignt.

The game inside is the original one.

Do you think a dead battery could bring that error?

I'm no expert on Vision games but to me this plug look to be loose, not plugged all the way in..

I agree...I had this same error when I was getting my MLGM going...I had the origional memory stick in and added another one but was either to much memory or not enough,I will check when I get home ....I remember finding a post about this error on the old site .

Hey,

Everything is plugged properly. I opened the top box just to have a better view of the inside. Might the issue come from the two Simms?

I have removed them and took a pic.

Pull the memory sticks out and clean the contact traces with a pencil.eraser. Reinsert them to see what happens. I am not sure on the battery causing the error.

The battery has just been tested: it is completely empty.    Why doesn't the machine show a low battery tilt?

Just in case  the Simms are dead as well, where could I find some?

Thanks to all of you.

That battery being dead does not trigger a low battery error, just drains the MPU battery fast, really fast
Looks like standard DDR2 memory simms, same as they use on reel touch games but less capacity, but might be DDR, I'm no expert looking at a picture. Either one is easy to find online really cheap

Yes for Pink Panther you need to increase memory. The 2 32 cards are not enough. Mine has one like yours and one double the size. Can't remember the sizes. Tollguy knows for sure. Send him a PM. When you get it ready remove the card in the side slot. It is not needed as it is a RFA card that has been read to memory. Which version Panther did you get? While you have the monitor open, on the lower left near the memory cards is a 2 pin jumper plud. Put a computer jumper on it so you can always watch the monitors progress. Make sure you clean the fan and heat sink of all dust also. If I remember right you are overseas. Check the version chip. I know here in the States a NJ version will take around 9 minutes to boot, where as a Vegas chip in around 2 minutes.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

hi,

if putting a new battery doesn't improve anything, are these rams the ones I need:  http://www.spininc.com/11459-0

Thanks a lot!

Those are correct. I'd try the battery first. Then put a jumper on JP1 and watch the boot process. Watch for the number just before where it says "extended memory passed". If it's reading the correct amount it should be close to 32000K. I think mine says 31724K. As mentioned in an earlier post, JP1 will be just to the left of the ram sticks. Those 2 pins need to be connected with a jumper.

News.   I have made the procedure with the jumper. It shows 13824 k. I put a 2032 instead of a 2035 and I am not sure the 2032 is good.

Did it make it all the way to the end of the boot process ? ...last screen shot should say Initializating please wait...and then the game should start.

Something is definitely off with the memory. 13 MB surely will not run your bonus software. Your error seems to make sense now.

I changed the battery. It shows  14 MB... better but not enough.

There is one thing I would like to understand: the machine worked fine with a 32 and a 16 SiMM.  The memory was obviously enough to run the machine properly.

Why would the machine two 32 SiMMs now?  Wouldn't it make sensitive to put a new 16 as well as a 32?

What's the best thing to do?  Thank you for your patience.

C.
